I hear a quick single “beep” in reverse, what is it?

This started happening after leaving it parked at airport for a week. When my 4Runner sits for awhile off, overnight for example, when I put it in reverse I hear a quick single “beep”. What is that?

Maybe it's lojack? I had it on one of my cars that would beep due to installer error.

Are you sure that it's a beep and not a squeak? Mine will do it occasionally under the same conditions, and I'm pretty sure it's the brake pads seating themselves. Nearly every vehicle I've owned does it.

might be hill start assist kicking in if you are shifting from reverse to forward while still rolling backwards a little. I'm guilty of that every once in a while and get the beep.

I've heard it before too..completely random and I've never been able to isolate it, but it does sound like a beep.

Happens to me occasionally. My problem? Sometimes when I do a quick open and close of my hatch i keep my hand on the switch. It never leaves the switch as i shut it. So it sort of opens back up a little. It stays close enough to closed that it doesnt give me a instrument light. But as i back out of a driveway or take on an incline, it gives me a short beep and a quick blip on the instrument cluster. Took me forever to figure it out

were you able to figure this out? I'm currently experiencing this as well; when the vehicle goes from Park to Reverse i hear a single beep. I think i've narrowed it down to my brakes not fully disengaging or maybe something with ABS?

Like a poster above, I noticed that when I heard the beep it was due to one of the traction controls firing off due to some unknown reason.

Every time I've heard (what I think is) "it", I noticed a flash of the traction control icon on my dash - an orange-y/yellow square flash.

That sound familiar?

Mine does it whenever it sits for a while too. It’s a very low beep. Everything is shut and there are no lights on the dash. Long story short there is nothing wrong. Just ignore it.
