Windshield advice

My family and I are pcsing from San Diego to South Carolina, and I currently have a 5 inch crack I’m the windshield. Should I replace it before my road trip or... push it because I know I’ll crack it again on the road trip?

I wouldn’t push it, theoretically you could catch a crack on the way back home after replacement! I drove within a few weeks Santa Cruz-NYC-Orlando-Santa Cruz-Orlando without noticeable damage to my windshield, my wife drove not even an hour to Disney and got a bad one... you never know!
The Risk that the existing crack get worse is way higher

So replace windshield drive 5000 miles on highways, risk of damage = high

Keep current windshield, replace when after trip = well seems like the smart move to me ?

Guess I am not sure what you are asking. So what if the crack grows? Your windshield isn’t going to just fail. Is it right in your line of vision so that it is bothersome to see past or something?

If you have full coverage car insurance in South Carolina there is no deductible on windshield replacement.
So if you have to pay in CA I'd try to wait until SC. If you are military and don't register your 4R in SC that might not apply though.

Wait until you get back home unless it's keeping you from seeing or it's leaking.

I think I'm on my 6th or 7th glass.

Why the windshield fear of highway driving?
I’ve got over 36K mostly high speed highway miles in CA, NV, AZ,UT in 2 years.
No cracks, although several tiny rock chips in the windshield.
I’d replace it and enjoy it.

Mine just cracked. I'm leaving it. Not in my line of sight.

2 windshields here as well. I drove with the cracks for some time, highway and all, rain....no issues except being unsightly.
I agree with others, do the trip with the cracked one and replace when you get back.
