On-Road/Off-Road tire sets
How many of you keep a highway set of tires on your T4R for daily driving, then swap them out for AT/MT tires when you go on adventures, then back to highway afterwards?
I spend the majority of my miles on the pavement, but there have been reasons for temporarily having more aggressive tires installed. I'm not a fan of having knobby tires installed all the time (gas mileage, noise, etc), so I was entertaining having a spare set for the weekends when I want to get a little dirty.
Thoughts?

Used to have a winter set of tires when I lived in CO and WY.

I wouldn't mind doing that but no space. Good idea though.

I don't do that currently with my 4R, but I did run 2 sets on my Tacoma when it was new. I used to use an AT on factory wheels for daily driving and had a set of MTs on FJC steel wheels for off road use. The only draw back (other than the 1/2 hour or so it took to swap out the wheels) was that only 1 set could have TMPS sensors installed, so when I ran the MT tires the light was always on. On the positive side, my tires lasted longer because I would typically leave the MTs on for a couple of months at a time.

I should. But also no space since the other car has dedicated winter tire set. I'd keep BFG KO2 for summer/offroad and something else for wet weather.

I did that with my first 4runner for a summer. Just a PIA and a waste of time IMHO. Most all tires will get you 40-50K miles with proper rotating, for me thats atleast a couple years.

I had two sets on my previous vehicle.
It only works if your adventures are 1/infrequent, 2/further away, and 3/longer than a couple days. This was my case then.
If you live in a place like where I am, PHX, you actually need the toughest tires for DD/weekends and standard duty AT for UT, CO, etc.
It is not fun having to store a set of relatively big tires and replacing before/after every weekend trip is even worse.

Ben there, done that. Sounds good in theory but not practical.
With the way tire technology has evolved, there are several tires out there that a pretty good multi-purpose that should work for most adventures both on and off-road.
I’ll be going with Nitto Ridge Grapplers for this build. While not perfect for every scenario, excellent all around tires.

I need the A/T tread to get from home to the highway to go anywhere.
It rained last night so I had to cross 2 running streams before I got to pavement this morning to get to work.

I do it only because my Limited came with 20" tires and I wanted to wear them out. My other tires are KO2 BFG 275/70/17. I only used the 20s on long highway trips with no off roading. Both sets are about worn out now. It is a pain swapping the tires around and keeping track of which position they go back on for proper rotation. I am going to sell the stock 20" wheels and leave new stock size KO2 tires on all the time. Also my BFG tires do not have tpms sensors so I just put a piece of tape over the light when they are on. If you intend to reprogram every swap for the other sensors then it will be even more of a pain.

This sounds ridiculous, but I also love the look of the truck with ATs on it.
Reality is I have to commute 20 miles each way M-F. I take the truck wheeling, camping, etc maybe 10 times a year and could easily swap the wheels when the trips are planned, or maybe when snow is coming.
I just think it would look really goofy with full skids, sliders, "raptor" lights, LED light bar, full length roof rack, Gobi ladder, etc etc and then a set of highway tires on it.

Too much work to change them, get a good set of ATs and spend the extra time and $$ on fun stuff with the family.
There are alot of posts where members are very happy with their KO2, AT3, Wildpeak, Toyo etc. and they look better on a T4.

I put 285/70R17 K02's on my 4Runner. Affects the gas mileage on highway, but good offroad traction. Great in snow and on ice in ND. May not be an extreme offroad tire, but maybe a good comprimise.
