Toyota LED Fog Upgrade - These legit?

Have a set of BD SAEs that's on way back to factory for their fix since they're not really SAE after all. Had super slow responsiveness from them and quite frankly was unhappy with the CS. Opted to go another direction as a result. I'll be selling them upon return.

It brought me to the Morimoto and Toyota OEM/LED options. I am likely going with the Morimoto XB headlights soon; however, I read about alot of happy customers with the Toyota LEDs with the blackout design. No cutting of tabs, etc. Just swap.

I bought the kit from a Toyota dealer. Everything I read said that the lights come from Japan or China (singles - Japan; kit - China). Either way they're OEM and work better than stock.

The lights arrived and I went to install. Upon unpacking, I see this - Made in Mexico by Valeo. Seems out of left field. I know Valeo does OEM supply, but I haven't read anything about them being the supplier for this. I didn't install as a result.

Anyone know if these are not genuine Toyota or possibly aftermarket replacements for OEM? The dealer represented them as genuine OEM.

Your 2020 fogs are black on the inside like the ones shown here? Mine are chrome on the inside of my 20' Pro

Ok, good to know. Thanks for confirmation. I hadn't read anything about them now being made in Mexico and from Valeo. Have to assume similar performance / range.

There's two LED options - one is black and one is chrome.

You'd think the factory would put all the same lights in these trucks. I mean why do chrome LED's on one TRDP and then black LED's on the next TRDP.

I can see why it would vary between trim levels, but it's stupid to vary on the same trim

I don't know for sure but I think it's probably due to the import process and then how each geographic distributor orders them. Sort of like how ORP KDSS and no moonroof is a non-existant combo in some regions of the US. I guess there is a fair amount of stuff done right at port before these head to the dealers. I think I read once on here how the Pros have to have some trimming done for wheel/tire fitment of the Nittos. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if distributors could order blacked out LEDs rather than chrome.

My bad. Had blackout on the 19. Pro came with chrome. Same markings on the housing, identical except lens color. I'm selling one set, can't make up my mind on color. Headlights still have chrome

I think pro, limited and nightshade come chrome led. All other trims get halagen. The black led fog seems aftermarket or maybe on another model? they just want sell more lights and make more money

Yeah, thats kinda like the distributor installing a lock box in the console of mine but I haven't heard of anyone else with a 2020 having that option.

Thanks for the clarification. Now I want the black ones since I have the Morimoto headlights and black taillights. It NEVER ends.

I have had experience with the following

PT413-42190 - came with my 2019 Pro. very very sharp cut off and much brighter than my wife's 2010 limited's halogen fogs. these are not Japan made. PT413-42191 is the same light with Black bazel that I have not tried
he cut off is not crisp at the wide angel.
81210-48051 and 81220-48051. these are Japanese made and fits just perfectly. I bought these for my 2020 TRD OffRoad. Not very happy with these - they are as bright as the 42190 but t

I since bought an extra set of 42190 (Pro take off from someone for $70 shipped), BajaDesign Squadron Sport, and DiadoDynamics street legal version which I have not received yet. I will install the BD with yellow lenses behind the grill for extreme rain/fog condition and therefore limited use, and try DD in a few weeks and decide if I will use those over the 42190 for my 2020. will post an update with a compare

I bought a 2020 4Runner and ordered the LED fog light upgrade from the factory. It was an option online. I passed it on to the dealer who said it needed to be installed in the dealership. When I picked the vehicle up, they then said the vehicle wasn't the right model and a LED kit was only available on the limited. Mine is an offroad premium. I was very disappointed in how Toyota chooses which accessories are availabe for which models. Seems it shouldn't matter when it comes to an accessory.

Imo, the morimoto fogs look better with the XB headlights, in daytime the oem has an opening (for light) that stands out where the morimotos blend in better.
Nighttime the color of morimoto is 5500k, perfect match for the XB headlights. The oem true color rating, not sure. The light output is about the same.
My 2019

here is the morimotos I sold

here's oem black pic I found online where it shows in daytime not as blackish as morimoto(if that makes any sense, lol)

Yeah those do look good. I'm happy with the output of the OEM fogs, so if I upgrade then it at least needs to match the OEM output.
