Roof top cargo carrier box bubble

I'm looking for a thule or yakima roof top cargo carrier that mounts on the factory crossbars. The thule and yakima webpages are useless, as I can't imagine between the two of them they only make one carrier that fits, and it's the small useless one at that.

Anyone out there have one installed on the factory cross bars of their 5th Gen? If so, which one do you have?

Thanks!

@marlinsfan Are you looking for what size of roof box will fit on a factory rack?

There's a fit guide that Yakima uses that might help with that.
Yakima Infolookup

Looks like for the 2014 you can't use the factory cross-bars as they are too close to the roof: Yakima Infolookup

You'll want to get Yakima cross-bars instead of using the factory ones and you'll be able to use nearly any of their boxes:
Yakima Infolookup

Thule is the same way: If you get their smallest box it uses the most basic hardware (essentially a u-bolt). To get any of their full-size boxes you'll want to do raised rails.

I'd suggest the Wingbar Evos: Thule Wingbar Evo | Thule | USA
and foot pack: Thule Rapid Crossroad Foot Pack | Thule | USA

That combo will have aero bars (quieter) and they extend past the side-rails so you can mount other things on the bars.

Hope that helps.

I prefer Yakima because of the pictures they offer and the support they provide but I've owned both Thule and Yakima. You can also look at Inno and Rhino Rack. I've installed all those brands in the past.

Thank you both. I don’t want to buy new crossbars and am looking for a larger box.
@KWSRStorm do you have the force Xt installed on yours? Thanks!

I use a Yakima skybox 18 no problem. Yes, it hits the rear spoiler when I open the hatch, but its not an inconvenience. Someday I will drill new holes for the mounts and shift it forward, but until then its fine for me.

I use the Thule Motion Xt on stock bars. Works great and I can open the rear tailgate without hitting it

Thanks for your post and picture. Which size is your motion XT? They have Sport, L, XL and XXL sizes.

Go big or go home guys!

My giant packasport doesn't stay up there all the time, but it is a black hole in terms of crap that can fit up there. It has to go on raised Thule crossbars that clamp on the side rails in order to give enough clearance for the spoiler on the hatch. That seems to be the limiting factor on roof top boxes.

I have a Yakima Skybox 16 (although on LFD bars) and it clears the hatch and the sharkfin. (It has a cutout for the fin)
