2021 LED headlights ? Who has a crystal ball?

Total crystal ball question, and I only ask because I'm looking to buy the 2020 4runner. I currently own a 2019 and previously a 2016. Both trail/offroad versions.

With 2020 updating their TSS, Android and Interior Display, that's enough shiny parts for me to jump into a 2020. But... wild guess...you think they will ever upgrade the headlights to their standard LED setups for 2021? Long shot or still a possibility before the "revolutionary" 6th generation (as we continue to wait and wait)?

any educated guesses? I know, it's a pie in the sky type of question. I was a bit surprised they didnt already just toss in the LED setup in the 2020 with all the electronic changes already.

Who knows but think they should. How about some auto headlights too! So weird my 2020 ORP has auto hi-beams but not auto headlights.

I’d just get the 2020 and upgrade the lights or wait for the next gen if I was you

What do you mean auto headlights? Mine has auto light sensing on off headlights as well as the auto high beams.

2020
Doesn’t have auto lights. You have to turn them on or off manually. At least in the off road premium model. Dumb.

My Porsche has headlights that are decades ahead of whatever Toyota has on deck. Doesn't work any better than my 13 TE after I aimed them properly... except shit is a bluish white instead of an amber yellow.

2020 TRD Pro has auto headlights so it’s trim level dependent.

At least in the past two years, Toyota has made an announcement for the new 4runner at the Chicago Auto Show which happens in February. We might have to wait until then to find out if Toyota has done made any changes for the 2021 4runner.

LED headlight

The Taco ones were backward compatible (fit wise), and a forum member built a wire loom (for $60?) so people could just hook up one connection. A lot of people seemed very happy with it. We can only hope and dream....

Looks like the same backwards compatibility is available with the Tundra. With the 4Runner being one of the last holdouts, I’m really hoping the make the switch next year to LED as a way to modernize the platform without a full redesign.

I would put a large sum of money on 'no'. The 4Runner is likely up for replacement in 2022 or 2023 at the latest and it doesn't move nearly as many units as the Tacoma which set another sales record despite increased competition from the Ranger and Gladiator. Unless Toyota wanted to make them standard on all trims, I just don't think the R&D return will be there without making them prohibitively expensive.

Why not just wait towards the end of the year to see what comes out on the 2021 T4R. If nothing changes, at least you can probably save on buying a 2020 versus a 2021.

The 6th gen(being call NEXTGen) 4Runner will actually not have headlights. In 2034 we will all be wearing helmets with built-in imaging. I actually look forward to the FLIR night driving.
