What is this connector on 2016 4Runner Limited ?

Hello guys,

Does anyone have any idea what does this connector/sensor do on 2016 4runner limited? I took my rear bumper out to repair it and I noticed that connection. I looked at the wiring harness diagram, but I can't find anything. The wiring is damaged and I need to replace it.

Thanks in advance

@amir_gh that is the electrical connection for the outside luggage compartment smart key antenna. This is the antenna that detects the presence of the smart key for when you push the buttons on the rear hatch to open and close the window on the limited only. Hope this helps.

Two wires are stripped. Do I need the entire wire harness or I can just fix those two?

Thanks

If the plug is good, just repair/reconnect the wire.

If it were me, I would repair the two wires and call it a day. Those two wires running to the key antenna run the entire length of the passenger side of the Limited, and are part of the right hand floor wiring harness (P/N 82161-35F50 for Limited and P/N 82161-35F60 for Limited with the auto steps is between $980-1050 for the wiring harness just looking online). Replacing the entire wire harness for that much money for two wires is overkill.

Order the two repair terminals for the connector and splice them in. If you need to order another connector, do so. Repairing the two wires should run you less than $40 at the dealership. I don't know the connector number off the top of my head, but on the wiring diagram it is listed as connector "N21". The parts counter should be able to figure it out from there.

Good Luck!

Agreed, it looks like a simple repair. You can either reconnect or use a splice if you need length to make the connection. Also, I'd wrap that connector to prevent future damage. A thin piece of rubber and a couple ty-wraps should do it. It's hard to see from those pictures just how much wire you have to work with there.

Thanks, I got these from dealer. They were relatively cheap.

Hello again,

I can't find the that male terminal that connects to keyless Antenna. I went to dealer and they couldn't figure it out. Here is the connector picture. I can't find any thing in wire harness diagram. Do you know by any chance?

Thanks again.

@amir_gh , here you go. Terminal number 82998-24360. Sounds like your local dealer is not too motivated lol. Given the project you are doing, you might want to pay the $20 for 48 hours of Toyota TIS access so you can view the OEM repair manuals, and info and download what you need so that you have it on hand. I have found it more useful than my local parts counter at times.
