Pardon my ignorance but what is the grey/silver part of the front/rear bumper called?
I'm looking to price replacing it with black, if it's at all possible. Plasti-dip is not an option. Can you even purchase it in black or does it need to be painted? Thanks.

Valence.
http://www.toyotaonlineparts.com/oe-toyota/5390135250
Set your vehicle to the trdpro and order the black valence.
Part number: 53901-35250
This is what I did. I plastidipped mine at first, but I'm apparently one of the 3 people in the world that's bad at spray painting stuff, and wasn't happy with the finish quality. So.. I bought the valence panel, and got happy.

I guess I'm the 4th. Did it to my emblems and hate it. It's so gritty. Trying to run a microfiber cloth over it and it seems like 1% of the cloth remained on the emblems. Thanks for the info!

Ha!
My first try, the valence looked fuzzy. Haha.
Figured out I was spraying too far from the surface.
I did my center piece (masked off the front emblem), and it turned out perfect, so I left that.
I, along with many forum members, did the black out emblem kit from NoLux. Looks great but takes a while to get them in.

That's what I'm going to buy. I'm also going to pay to have it put on for me. I ALWAYS find a way to mess things up due to my impatience.

I wouldn't pay someone to do it, it's really too easy man. Just search how to remove the bumper (crazy easy), then all you have to do is remove the clips (just need a small flat head screwdriver), slide the new one into place and put the clips back. This is assuming you have the trail model.

You have to cut/dremel the slots in the front bumper where the valence clips go

That's different!
There is a lot of discussion on this particular topic throughout the forum. I would do some searching and read through.
But if you don't have the trail, putting on a black lower valence will require you to cut slots into your bumper cover.
It can be done, others have done it, and it's not overly complicated, but I would imagine it would be a bit of a pain.

If you have little time or money to burn then you can definitely buy the TRD Pro ones and have someone install them for you. For me, I pulled mine off and took them to a paint shop and had them paint them for me. Cost me $50 for both.

Since my front valence got trashed, I'd like to remove these black spacers or whatever they are:
Can someone tell me how to get them off? Eventually I plan to get a steel bumper but until then I'd like to get rid of these things and hang my license plate on the bumper.

53901-35250 - seems to be the black one, but question:
Are the front and rear valences the same?
Never mind- stupid question, they obviously aren’t with the trail hitch.
