Wiring raptor lights to button?

I can’t seem to find a detailed “how to” for wiring a set of Overland Depot raptor lights to an OE style push button.

Anyone have a link or insight on how to wire this? I know absolutely nothing about wiring.

Why would you want to wire them to a switch? They should be wired to your running lights.

I wired them up to test and the lights stay lit without the DRLs/headlights being turned on.

They were wired per Overland Depot’s instructions and I simply don’t want them on all the time.

I initially wired my raptor lights up like you. Then I added a switch by doing the following:

Get this wiring harness:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I cut the switch off this harness and added my own OEM style switch. The colors of wire coming from the switch will not match up exactly with the colors from the wiring harness, so you might have to play around with it in order to get it to work. There is a youtube video of some kid adding an OEM style switch to this wiring harness on his Tacoma. It's a helpful reference.

Yup, that harness above will work and basically follow the same instructions as wiring up an LED light bar. Watch a few install videos of 4runner LED light bar install.

Thanks for the information, I want to do the same thing with my Raptor lights from Overland depot as well. I currently have them wired up to the fuse box under the hood, I would like the ability to turn them on and off as well with an OEM style switch. This looks perfect, now to find an OEM raptor light switch 👍🏻

Found the video. Again, the colors of your wires might not match exactly with the ones in the video, but it gives you a good idea of how to get it going.

Thumbs up

Thank you for the info and links. Ordered that harness and will attempt to give everything a go next weekend.

I purchased the harness and I’m sitting down with everything in front of me.

I watched the video numerous times while looking at what is in front of me and I simply don’t understand how to wire the raptor lights harness into the harness that I purchased.

Does anyone have a step by step process for this?

There should be 2 wires that come off the relay that will go to your raptor lights (white and black). I think they have flat male/female connectors on them. If you don't want to use the male/female connectors on the harness, you can cut them off and use a waterproof butt spice instead (or some other connector that fits your needs).

If your raptor lights have a harness coming off of them, you may need to cut and separate those wires.

You're going to want to connect all the black wires of your raptor lights together into one connection and tie it into the black wire coming off the relay using whatever connector you decide. Do the same for all the white (or red) wires coming off your lights and connect them to the white wire coming off the relay.

That should be it. Does this help?

I apologize but it doesn’t.

Off the relay there are two red, two black, and one white wire. White wire goes up to a plastic clip near where you are supposed to wire in the push switch. One red wire goes to a fuse and then has a red wire coming out of that with a metal C connector. One black wire has a metal C connector. The other red and black wires go down where it then splits into 4 total wires: 2 pairs of red and black wires with connectors on each.

Ok, so its the 2 pairs of red and black wires with connectors on each (the part that I put in bold in your post) that will connect to your raptor lights.

How many raptor lights do you have and does the wiring that's coming off your raptor lights all go down to one red connector and one black connector or are there multiple red connectors and multiple black connectors coming off the lights?

Lets say you have 2 or 3 raptor lights and they all go down to 1 red connection and 1 black connection on your raptor light harness, then you would just need to connect them to one of the red connectors and one of the black connectors on the Amazon harness. The other red and black connectors on the Amazon harness that are meant for the lights to be plugged into would not be used and you can just tape them up.

If you have 3 raptor lights with a separate red and black connector coming off of each light, then you need to connect all of the black wires from each light, connect all of the red wires from each light, and then connect them to one of the black connectors coming off the Amazon harness and one of the red connectors coming off the Amazon harness. The unused connectors coming off the Amazon harness can be taped up.

On a side note, the black wire with the C connector on the Amazon harness goes to a ground source in your engine bay while the red wire with the C connector goes to the Positive terminal on your battery.

I personally have 2 raptor lights and I had no harness connecting the wires on the lights. Just the red and black wires coming off each light. I had to connect some 14 gauge red wire to all the red wires coming off the raptor lights with butt splice connectors, cut off the male/female connectors on the Amazon harness, and connect all the red wires from the raptor lights to the red wires on the Amazon harness with another butt splice connector. Same exact thing will all my black wires. So I was able to use all the connectors on the Amazon harness because all the wires coming off my raptor lights were separated in the first place. If the red and black wires on your raptor lights are already all connected together, no need to utilize all the connectors on the Amazon harness. You should be able to get away with just splicing them into one red and one black connector and taping up the unused red and black connector.

Just reading that (not having the wiring in front of me anymore) May clear some more things up. I need to lay it all out again.

So, the wiring harness from amazon has the fuse and relay on it. The overland depot light kit comes with an add a fuse piece that gets added on to the red wire coming out of the raptor lights harness.

Do I need to use that add a fuse anymore or no?

No, you don't need to use the add a fuse that goes directly from the raptor lights to your fuse box. The Amazon harness gets rid of that direct connection. That add a fuse is basically what turned your raptor lights on as soon as you turned your key on. However, you will need an add a fuse to power the OEM style switch in the cab.......as seen in the video posted earlier in this thread.

You don't need to use much of anything from the overland depot wiring kit anymore. All you need to make everything work are:

the wires coming from the lights themselves,

a few butt splice connectors (or male/female connectors......whatever you decide),

maybe some 14 gauge wire to lengthen a few wires here and there,

your new OEM switch that will replace the one on the Amazon harness (along with the add a fuse to power that switch).
