Sony XAV AX6000 Head Unit

2018 ORP
Pixel 5 connect via Android Auto wired and wireless(It's why I got the 6000)
Contacted TGP, dude was helpful but can't expect him to diagnose over the phone.

Has anyone ever installed one of these(Sony XAV 6000) headunits put together and sold by Trailgridpro?

Really easy to do, install was less than an hour total. I don't think the problem has anything to do with TGP or their wiring.

Problem I had is that the stock USB plug works(I can charge my phone), but the headunit does not recognize my phone or a USB drive. It gets power, but when I go to upload a custom wallpaper from a USB drive, the message on the headunit is something like "USB drive not supported", same thing happens when I plug my phone in an attempt to upload a photo from it for wallpaper.

So, I took the headunit back out, disconnected the plug that TGP hooked up and just ran a USB-c to USB-c cable from the headunit and out of the hole where the stock USB connection was. Now the headunit recognizes my phone which is good, but still kinda bugs me that it is not working the way it was designed to.. Gonna try to upload a photo from a USB drive tomorrow when the appropriate connector arrives since i don't have a USB-a connect anymore.

Is there something else I should be trying, has anyone else run into this problem? I am thinking of sending this back for a replacement, I really like the headunit.

I have a sony 8100 HU from and 2nd party who purchased it from TGP. The stock USB below the head unit should work if properly connected to the head unit. At times I need to unplug it during start up to get the head unit to read the phone for car play.

Its been awhile since I've installed mine but I do recall a usb connection behind the head unit that connects to the stock usb. Double check the connection points to see if its loose.

I recently installed an AX4000 from TGP.

I had to reformat the USB drive to one of the FAT formats, don't remember which one. The Sony docs don't tell you the formats they support. So check that first.

Phone:
HU + cable #1 --> doesn't work
HU + cable #2 --> works

Seems like a cable issue to me. If you got a new center dash USB-A connector from TGP, it could be bad; mine was and they sent a replacement.

Good luck!

It was all pre-wired. They made a connection that connects the existing USB cable coming from below the headunit to a USB C input in the back of the head unit.

I am in contact with them, they have good CS thus far, I am thinking I need to switch out head units..

Any chance you can post pics of your setup? Any regrets on the non HD screen? That is what is preventing me from going this route

Sorry no pix and this site isnt the best to upload them. I would've preferred an HD screen and that is probably the only downfall. The HU is solid overall, works well and better performance for the speakers. I use carplay about 95% of the time. I picked it up at a good price and will sell it eventually to buy an OEM 2020 plus HU with car play option.

I still want to reinstall it and mount the screen a tad lower and more flush. It sticks out more than I like but its not a deal breaker.

Update in case anyone is interested.

TrailGridPro sent me out another unit, I installed(less than 15 minutes now, I am a pro at this point) and set everything up and the new unit seemed to work ok with the USB except now I couldn't connect wirelessly with Android Auto.. The whole reason I got the 6000 model was the option of wireless AND USB for redundancy purposes.

After trying everything I could think of, nothing worked. Finally had a brain fart about 30 minutes ago and tried the only thing I could think of that I have not tried yet, a factory reset on the Sony. That did the trick and fixed the connectivity issues.

This was a problem with Sony, not TrailGridPro. They were more than accommodating during the Sony replacement process and I had the new one in hand 3 days after the confirmation of the return authorization. Communication was and is great with a tech named Bryan.

TGP has great customer service and quick on troubleshooting. After you install a head unit once its simple to do again. The plug and play kits take all the hassle out of it.
