Had mine done about 3 months ago. I was given a loaner. A month later, drove it 3500 miles round trip to NYC. No issues (not counting the horrible NYC traffic in Manhattan on Friday afternoon,LOL)

Given the increased importance of the O-ring for the recall, perhaps Toyota will be communicating an important "awareness" to their shops to take note of the O-ring - or even better yet, include a new O-ring with the recall service.
In my opinion, you are overthinking this and worrying too much.Is there a small chance you might have to return to the dealer? Sure. Just get a new fuel pump and move on.

Interesting thing. My daughter's 2019 Subaru WRX went in to the dealer today for a low pressure fuel pump recall. I wonder if they used the same pump as Toyota. Coincidence?

Got mine done on Nov 2 with Fred Haas Toyota in Spring TX. I dropped the car off at 9am and they finished the job around 12 noon. The service writer said they had a special team of mechanics doing the fuel pump recall. The dealer provided roundtrip courtesy rides. Inspected the underside immediately afterwards and all the bolts for the shield were in place. Drove 1,900 miles from TX to MA before Thanksgiving. So far so good.

Hey , just had my fuel pump done, 2019 Turd Pro. I didn't have any issues described in the TSB but my dealership called me, ordered the pump, brought it in with a yellow light on and 3 hours later it was done.

Same problem with the O-Ring not sealing properly. Took it in and the dealer fixed it. Did not say if it was not installed properly when they did the recall or if the new fuel pump unit wasn't correct when installed. One day later and all seems to be well so far.

I dont know if clanholm or anyone else had this issue also but before my dash lights went off, I noticed a significant lag in my gas pedal at launch. Also, start up was hesitated more than usual. Just some FYI if you experience any of these issues post recall.

Good luck
My Check Engine and Trac Off lights came on after the fuel pump recall service was performed as well. As much as I hate to have to bring her back to the dealer, it must be done. My car went into full limp mode where you step on the accelerator all the way and can barely go about 60mph top speed. That’s more dangerous than any fuel pump failure (that never happened) before the “fix.”

Had the fuel pump replaced under the recall at 270K miles on a 2014 SR5. The highway mileage reading on the dash dropped from its traditional 19+ mpg to a steady 17.8 mpg. Hand calculated mileage showed it is still coming in at 19.2 mpg. Also seat of the pants feel seems slightly less pep on acceleration.

Mine is scheduled for May 3rd. Just bought it, its en route from dealership in another state. Strange it wasnt fixed while it had been in the original owners dealership several times.

OK, here is my story of fuel pump recall leading to other stuff.

I had the recall fix done on my 2019 about a year ago. Last summer, I started to hear a metallic crunch from the rear suspension when (1) I had a load in the vehicle (dispersed camping or fishing trips) and (2) big bumps, like on logging roads etc.

A few trips to the dealer while it was under warrantee. They replaced a shock and some other odds and ends and it kept happening.

Took it back last week (off warantee) and forced them to drive around a pot-holed parking lot with 15 pounds of weights in the back and 3 service guys inside, and they finally heard the noise and said "ok, we will figure this out."

2 days later they call up and say that the position of the gas tank was shifted very slightly when the new pump was installed, and so the skid was contacting the tank which was what the crunch was ...

... so they added some spacers and problem solved.

So, if you hear noises from the rear post gas pump fix, check out the skid.

Everyone wants something Free, Until it’s not and they have problems.

If the fuel pump was going to cause a catastrophic fire then I may be worried.
I’ll take my chances with a failure. Not really a big deal to me. Call a tow truck and get r done.

I don’t entirely trust all the kid mechanics I see at the dealership near me.
I’ve been a field service technician for 25 years and sometimes we have the same workmanship issues with our newbies. Especially warranties. Hurry.. Hurry..
I’m good.

So you're going to wait until you have to send it to the dealer to get it done by the same people you're concerned of doing it anyways? Why not just order an entire new fuel pump and do it yourself then?

I think his point is there is a good chance it will never fail so he skips the dealer having his hands on his vehicle.

It's not guaranteed to fail.
