Used T4R Maintenance Checklist

Hi all!

I've had my '14 SR5 for a full year now and it's been doing great. Other than needing new rotors & pads and a new battery, I've had zero mechanical issues.

I've started thinking about maintenance a little more and I'm realizing I don't know exactly what fluids and maintenance items have and haven't been changed in the truck's 55k mile life. Since I've owned the thing I've put on roughly 10k to the odo and changed the engine oil twice. Other than that, none of the fluids have been touched since I took ownership and I have no clue if things like the transfer case or diffs have ever been touched. Wondering what would be a good plan of attack & inspection for the spring when things get warmer.

Right now since I'll be close to 60k by spring, I'm planning on tackling both diffs, the transfer case, and obviously the engine. I'll probably do the diff breather mod while I'm at it as well.

Just curious if there are any other areas I should be checking to verify there's no hidden problems that could come back to bite me later on. I've already got a couple hidden rust spots (like in the driver door sill) that need to be taken care of, so those are on the list too.

  • Clean MAF (and replace the o-ring if you like).
  • Clean throttle body (off the truck preferably, but probably a waste of time at 60k).
  • Brake fluid flush. Check all the bleeder caps are still there.
  • Power steering flush.
  • Front diff drain and fill.
  • Transfer case drain and fill.
  • Rear diff drain and fill.
  • Coolant flush.
  • Replace radiator cap (might as well).
  • Replace gas cap gasket if you feel like.
  • PCV valve (wouldn't bother at 55k).
  • Check serpentine belt.
  • Check and adjust parking brake.
  • Grease drive shafts.
  • Lube hinges and spare tire carrier.
  • Transmission fluid replacement.
  • Replace rear diff breather.
  • Clean and grease battery terminals.
  • Replace air filter.
  • Replace cabin filter.
  • Put anti-seize the skid plate bolts.

Great list! I'll definitely take it to heart. A few of those are ones I would've never thought to do, like the MAF sensor and the parking brake. Speaking of skid plate bolts, I managed to snap off one of the two oil drain skid plate bolts the first time I did the oil which was met with much cursing. It's still holding on fine with just one but that's on the agenda to drill out. Anti-seize is now my SOP with anything that can get rusty.

It's tricky to find a good place to do all this, since I live at an apartment complex and park on a small incline. Hoping to trade some beer for an afternoon at my buddy's garage to knock all this out.

Check/Clean the filter screens in the oil lines where they meet the oil control valves.

Replace your PCV valve every once in a while (cheap and easy)
