One week and 200 miles into my first 4Runner (2020 ORP), all functions appear to be nominal. Comfortable and authoritative, once I get my long legs under the fully-raised steering wheel.

Programming Homelink tested my patience. Mightily. But I passed.

Trying to get the local dealerís in-house body shop to swap out my silver valances for black ones... weíll see what level of adventure that turns into.

Oh crap. Revealing such plans here is going to paint a bullseye on my back. Earnest souls will feel burdened to correct the Error of My Ways, as I should clearly be DIYing it. Admonitions, judgments, and mentions of ďcrazy simpleĒ may very well be unleashed. Look out!

My 2008 Frontierís headlights were much worse. Iíll upgrade those Princes of Darkness in due course, but my hair isnít on fire about them as it is with some folks.

2020 trdp with 2000miles
0issues... and no complaints with the sound system entertainment or “squeaky breaks” ..

i think the point of this thread is to point out real issues, maybe drivetrain or suspension components. But being a new toyota owner over here, i kno they have had the same model for years now with little redesign.

other then that, i’ll post if i have a real problem

You are doing It right. Park closely to the wall and mark tape at level of little headlight dimples. Move 25 feet away and headlight hotspot should be at the same spot. If it is not, you will need to adjust it. 10 min later headlights are adjusted properly and with LED upgrade perfect as it should be. As well oncoming traffic will love you for not blinding.

My ones work just fine, sure it could be better but since I donít try to pick mushrooms on or off the road at night Iím fine.

There was a time not too long ago where there was no led or xenon and I survived it like many others.

There was also a time where the Internet didnít exist, there were no smartphones, etc, but, you know, progress.

I live in Seattle where, in the winter, 17 hours a day is night. Also spend a lot of time in the mountains skiing, requiring driving on rural roads. Headlights are very important. I, like many others, bought Toyota for bulletproof reliability. The headlights will be replaced, and I still get the rest of the rig that I love.

How is "I have tape marks inside my garage door for alignment checks at 10'" even remotely right when you say "Move 25 feet away"?

Read the alignment instructions I provided and you'll see that you are both wrong - although you are a little closer to right.

Where do you find your perfectly level 40+ foot area with a perfectly vertical wall?

I've had my 2020 Nightshade for one month now. I love it. My previous ride was an 06 Taco. I only have one complaint...the night I drove the 4Runner home from the dealer, it was a dark and stormy night (seriously). I had to pull over to check if the headlights were on and working because I could not see the road. They were on. But I won't complain about the headlights....I won't...

2020 ORP with 9,500 miles in 2 months. Surprisingly have only had an one instance of poor calling on apple car play.

Iím not happy with the headlights, even after swapping in some led low beams. Then again I came from having a custom HID retrofit on my previous Subaru Wrx so I guess I canít really compare apples to oranges. Iíll end up cutting open the headlights on the runner soon Iím sure.

I went with Toyota's 10' rule b/c I don't have 25' level anywhere. I have seen/read the link to the good directions you provided-just don't have the real estate. I leveled my 2011 Trail an inch or so in the front with adjustable Bilsteins and had everyone flashing me with my low beams on. The dealer should have adjusted the headlights when they installed the shocks. I got it fixed but was never happy with the headlights after that-low beams were ineffective. 2020 ORP seems to be no better. Point is none of us wants to blind oncoming drivers yet it would be nice to be able see Bambi as well. We all are seeing a variety of aftermarket headlights on vehicles both good and bad. From an oncoming point of view the German headlights seem to be effective and nonobtrusive though I have not driven one. I know Toyota can rise to the challenge. If they just hadn't purchased a 10 year supply to save $. It is enough of a safety issue it should be addressed by Toyota.

Try to find a shopping mall that has a large flat parking lot or have a dealer align the bulbs properly. There is a huge difference between 10ft and 25ft when it comes to alignment.

Hands free echo with my iPhone 11

2020 ORP with Software version 1047
iPhone 11

After the update, calls are clear on my end. CarPlay and Bluetooth calls from where I'm sitting sound just fine. No complaints.

On the other side of the call it's a different story. Callers or recipients complain of an echo on their end. They can hear themselves talking. Makes it difficult to have a conversation even if it doesn't effect my side of the call. I've experienced it myself calling my phone from my office land line and other cell phones. I can hear the echo.

This is happening on CarPlay and Bluetooth calls.

I've tried:
Adjusting the iPhone bluetooth volume all the way up
Adjusting the iPhone bluetooth volume all the way down
Adjusting the ln call volume settings up and down through the head unit.
unpairing/pairing the phone before and after updates
4 different cables and 2 different usb adapters
Putting the phone in my pocket during calls
Muting/unmuting the call in progress

Nothing I've tried has solved or helped the echo issue. I've read post after post over the internet about this issue with Toyota and bluetooth echo across many models, not just the 4runner. I don't know what else to do to fix this problem but it seems every service adviser I've mentioned it to shrugs their shoulders and acts like they've never heard of such a problem. Hell, I had to show them the screenshot of the TSB just to get them to install the software update.

Very frustrating.

I also encountered brake squeaks very early on. I had the whole brake system disassembled and cleaned. Squeak gone. Caliper and everything remove and cleaned, with new grease in bolts. Tell the dealership, that's a warranty issue. They covered my whole cleaning.

I'm in a very similar position where I have a 2005 Tacoma and looking to trade up for a 4R. It sounds like the choice fit well for yourself and I'm hoping for the same. Going to an auto show next week to get more acquainted with the 4R and other SUVs.

I've had a lot of issues with Android auto where the bottom buttons freeze up. I have to unplug and plug in again. Should I have dealer look at that TSB? I saw Android auto on it.
