2014 4runner limited JBL subwoofer replacement

on my '14 4runner /w JBL. it looks like the grill of the sub is separate from the panel trim. can i remove the grill by itself so i could slap an 8" sub in there? i really dont want to take apart my rear cargo area. im willing to cut the grill out since it has some marring but i dont know the best way to go about it.

Pulling apart the interior isn't terribly bad. It's mostly 10mm 14mm and trim clips. Here's a video of the interior being taken apart to add a JBL subwoofer to a 4Runner... Same same but different than what you want to do.

Hope this helps.

that was what i wanted to avoid. first vid id seen on yt when thinking of this. but i noticed the grill seems to be separate from the interior trim on the jbl system so i wouldnt have to do all that, i actually have a ct sounds 1000watt amp,lc2 and 12infinity ref" sub in a sealed box but i want something simple for now and think i might need the cargo space more often then not. then i heard the stock sub and it wasnt halfbad considering its in a stock sealed enclosure that doesnt take up any space.

It's understandable that you don't want to take a part the interior. It is a PITA, but looking at that video it looks like the sub opening in the panel is the same shape as if you were to have the cubby. That being said it looks like some of the screws may be tough to get to with a regular screwdriver. Plus would you have the room to pull the sub speaker? Just my 2 cents. There's a couple of threads that talk about replacing the 8" sub with a JL Audio sub.

I made a thread detailing how to remove the panels and get to the sub here

Third row seat removal to access rear panel pocket, subwoofer install

I didn't have the JBL panel since my truck dind't come with the sub so I just removed the pocket, the same way you'd remove the panel it just has plastic welds/rivets on the back super easy to remove

These mounting holes are the same as the JBL panel

Here's mine finished up
