Icon vehicle dynamics "preferred ride height"
Ok guys, I'm new here and new to the T4R scene. Own a slightly loved 2015 Trail Premium Edition, and slowly beginning my mods (with much much research done on this very forum, so thanks to all in advance).
Just received my ICON front coilover with RR & CDCV Adjustment option. Even though my actual install is still 2-3 weeks away (waiting on rear components), I have read the inclosed install instruction info frontwards and backwards and in braille and Icelandic, just to completely get comfortable with the install. I believe I've got it, don't really see a problem there.
According to the install information, ICON states YOUR ICON COILOVER ASSEMBLIES COME SHIPPED AT ICON’S RECOMMENDED RIDE HEIGHT.
DO NOT PRELOAD THE COIL BEYOND 2.13” (1.13” FOR 700LB COIL #158508) OF EXPOSED THREADS BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE TOP CAP AND THE TOP OF THE COIL ADJUSTER NUT. A REDUCTION IN RIDE QUALITY WILL BE EXPERIENCED IF COILOVERS ARE ADJUSTED TO ALLOW FOR LESS THAN 2” OF DROOP TRAVEL FROM STATIC RIDE HEIGHT.
My question is WHAT IS ICON'S RECOMMENDED RIDE HEIGHT? AKA, how much lift can i expect with the current setup. I measured the exposed threads between the bottom of the top cap and the top of the coil adjuster nut. Out of the box they measure in at 1.13". Does that mean that after install, I will have an additional available 1" of height adjustment before I can expect to experience a "REDUCTION IN RIDE QUALITY"? According to ICON.
Keep in mind, my 4runner currently sits bone stock. Just trying to get an idea of what I can expect lift measurement (center of hub to fender) to be over current measurements on stock suspension with the coilovers straight out of the box. So any input / advice / insults will be greatly appreciated.
And sorry for the long drawn out question.
Thanks guys

It may not be recommended, but mine is in the shop right now getting the Icon Stage 6 installed and i'm setting mine to 3"
Not sure how much difference it makes, but did you go with the extended travel set up?.

Yes, the coilovers i purchased are the part #58747C, 10-UP FJ/4RUNNER EXT TRAVEL 2.5 VS RR / CDCV COILOVER KIT. I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect LIFT wise when I install them straight out of the box without any adjustment. What I mean is, if I install them now and have total lift gain of 3" without adjustment then cool. Or if not, it's my understanding from reading the enclosed information that I have 1" of additional adjustment from ICON's factory setting. Of course, I don't want any more than 3" total lift. What if, after install, I've gained more than 3", say 3.5" or 4". Can it be decreased?
And, thanks for your response / information. I really do appreciate it.

Yes, you can easily adjust them to your liking. Mine are right about in the middle of the threads and I am measuring 38.5” floor to top of wheel well in the front and 39.5” in the rear. Perfect stance in my opinion and great ride quality.

I would just get it installed, and then take it for a quick drive to let it settle some...And then adjust from there, as needed, to get it where you want it.
You'll likely have more pre-load on the driver's side, when compared to the passenger side, to get it even.
23'' from hub center to fender should be about a 3'' lift...
As the last comment stated, it is very simple to adjust/fine-tune the height.

Here is my ICON stage 2 w/ extended travel option installed with the factory settings
Front has a lot more rake then I expected, I have since adjusted the front to be levelish, it 's pretty easy to do albeit tight to get the wrench in the slots.

probably 2" IIRC thats what King recommends. You only have so much travel available, the more travel you use to set the ride height higher, that means you're losing out on droop travel but gaining bump travel. So when you hit a pothole your tire drops in it vs you hit the pothole and the whole vehicle "falls" into it...

Thanks for all the info guys. It is truly appreciated. I'm just kinda OCD about things turning out as expected once completed. And this forum has been invaluable in my research.
PS : GOOD LOOKING RIGS. HOPE TO HAVE MINE BE AS NICE AS SOME I'VE SEEN ON THIS FORUM.
