Installed TRD Exhaust on my 2016

My TRD Cat Back Exhaust arrived this morning. I just finished installing it. Really simple process. Did not even take 30 minutes using myself and one other person. Sounds really nice so far but just driving around a parking lot so far. Once the rush hour is over in an hour or two I will take it out on the highway.

Really not much difference at idle. Definitely different during acceleration not really loud at all which is great as 6 cylinder engine just sounds dumb with a real overly loud exhaust. Looking forward to seeing what it sounds like on the highway.

I also installed TRD CAI this afternoon. Honestly, that was more of a hassle than the exhaust by comparison and I did not even have to cut the wire harness to install the new airbox. The entire project was done in about an hour and a half, max.

If you don't mind me asking what's the part # for the TRD exhaust?

Toyota Part Number
Part Number: PTR03-89200
Honestly, this thing was to pieces of piping, 3 bolts, 3 nuts, and a gasket. Really simple and quick process but I did have easy access to the underside of the 4Runner so that made it a lot simpler than doing it on jack stands or something

I had both on my 19. Honestly though the intake exhaust just make it sound good. It's negligible at full throttle of any hp gains but the intake makes the runner sound like it's in beast mode.
The best performance mod to me is the Sprint booster and that's just throttle response and not any hp gain

The Toyota Part No. for CAI is PTR03-89100 according to the invoice. I put my 2016 on a Diagnostic Analyser and ran it 0 to 70 a couple of times and 50 mph to 70 mph simulating highway passing a couple of times both before and after the modification. From a purely seat of the pants perspective definitely felt quicker under both scenarios. I have to look at the data and see if it tells me anything definitive would like to have run it on a dyno before and after.

Also if you get the CAI and do not want to slice open the wiring harness to extend the MAF Sensor wires, Underdog Racing Development makes an MAF Extension that works with 2010+ 4Runners. It is a little longer than needed but I really would rather not cut up wiring harness if I do not have to.

I did both on my '17 before the holidays. Was getting 17.x mpg. Now getting 19.x - 20 mpg. I don't really get on the gas, so I don't know if it has more power or not.

I would love to have known about the URD harness, that would have saved some time and hassle, but not a big deal.

I also installed the TRD exhaust last week along with a K&N replacement air filter (not the CAI version) and I can feel there is a better responsiveness to the acceleration. Not a huge difference but it’s there.

I’m sure my current mileage will suck as I’ve been testing the acceleration with the new set up. As soon as I do my normal driving I’ll have better results on MPGs

I had asked here on the forum about an extension for the MAF and I got responses like you just have to remove the electrical tape. Ya and cut through about 18 inches of original harness. Call me an idiot but I prefer to have the extension. If it cost $100 buck maybe not, but for $35, I spring for that.

It wasn't really that much of an electrical surgery as you might think. In fact, I didn't use a knife or blade. I just unraveled the electrical tape by hand and slipped off the split wire loom. The MAF sensor wires were easily separated from the rest of the wiring. I then put the rest of the wires back into the factory loom, then put a new split loom on the separated MAF wires. No worries about cutting wires or messing anything up. You see guys on YouTube taking a utility/box knife to the loom...no thanks.

Time is worth more than money to me, so had I known there was an extension harness, I'd easily have spent $35 to save 15 minutes.
