Question OME BP51 Suspension Damage?

I didnt run my finger over the chrome shaft but it looks like one of my BP51's is leaking oil (Front driver side). If you look closer it may look like the chrome shaft is cracked, but I forgot to run my finger over it just to see if it was just oil build up or really cracked. Guess ill do that now, to see if the shaft is smooth.

Anyones BP51's leaking or leaked in the past, cracked shafts?

Im only running rears on mine but no issues. However I have heard leaks and build quality issues are prevalent on these which is what stopped me from running them up front on my build. Thankfully ARB has great warranty and support.

Check IH8mud and tacomaworld for threads on BP-51 issues with these...

I'm wondering if ARB/OME will send me 2 front shocks instead of 1. Would be nice if they did that. Waiting for their reply.

that looks like oil buildup on the limit of your normal stroke.

If you're running those without boots in a salty environment, there could be pitting on the shafts which progressively got worse. This will damage your wiper seal and main seal, letting contaminates in.

Those need to be rebuilt with new shafts. Run coilover wraps next time to keep all the winter grime out.

costs should be close to the following:

(each coilover)

$25 for seal kit
approx $75 for a new shaft
Shock oil and nitrogen $20

While you're at it, I'd replace the lower spherical bearings when the shocks are off. I think the OME's use COM10T. You could upgrade these to stainless if you'd like.
They should be about $15 each

I'm not sure what labour would be.... but internal bypasses with all the seal replacements and fresh oil, and bearings should be about 1 hour per coilover.

Anyway, welcome to rebuildable shocks. I wouldn't expect that to be a warranty issue, it's time for a rebuild.

Since July 2017. Who would Rebuild these shocks? Would I remove them and send them to ARB USA to rebuild? I don't think anyone around my way can do the rebuild. Maybe 1 or 2 places might, but i know they never worked on OME BP51's.

I would contact filthy motorsports. If they can't help, they should be able to tell you where to send them.

You may or may not need shafts. Likewise, you may or may not need some internal honing....those prices were just ballpark. I'm in Canada, so I get most of my parts through summit or manufacturers if needed.

I've done a few truck sets, and then I bought Amsoil from a UTV guy, and the next thing you know, I've done seals and shafts for a few full sets of UTV coilovers. I'm sure there's other guys like me out there covering the cost of their nitrogen and spring compressors.

Hopefully you can get some coilovers together to put on while they're being rebuilt.

Good luck!

The tech support team at ARB USA is outstanding.

No rebuild required. They are sending me a new coilover shock to replace the damaged one. This saves me, the customer a lot of downtime. I can't thank them enough.

I do recommend OME BP-51 if you are in the market for a new suspension system. Not because they are replacing my coilover, because their shocks are really tough and can handle the weight of an overland vehicle. Especially if you have additional weight in the front, bumper & winch setup.

Thanks ARB USA!

That's unlikely. A warranty covers the part in question, unless they know there's a build issue with an entire production run and replace them all under a recall, but I doubt they'd do that.

Lots of cool thing in and around Auburn!

It's not a store front either so you can't go and shop there.
