The major benefit for me is combining multiple remotes into one built-in device. Another benefit is that it cant be stolen and secure rolling codes canÂ’t be copied easily. Most people probably just have the one remote so I get what youÂ’re saying.

When you have to manage access to 3 different properties or vehicle gates in addition to garage door, the HomeLink thing becomes pretty valuable. I have it in multiple vehicles and it really cuts down in “clicker management”.

I generally park inside the garage, but I have thought about security as well when I park outside. Most modern garage doors have a “wireless lockout feature”. My Liftmaster has a button on my interior garage door pad that basically ignores all wireless open commands. So if someone broke in the 4Runner and tried to open the garage, it won’t do anything until I open it in the morning from inside.

If security was a huge concern than I would just carry wireless combination pad like those you would install just outside of the garage door, or perhaps rewire the HomeLink to not have power unless the ignition was powered on.

My 2012 SR5 has 3 programmable buttons on the overhead console. Is that the home link you speak of? Did they do away with that feature on newer 4runners? If so, big fail. I love those buttons. So handy. Perfect for a garage door opener.

Yes, I refer to those as HomeLink. I think it’s the official name but different brands might call it something else.

Yes, it is called HomeLink.

Some versions of the 4R still have Homelink.

Most versions do have HomeLink. Out of the 8 trim levels available for TRD in 2020, only 2 don't come with it. SR5 and TRD base versions.

Not sure what this small opening next to the USB is intended for, but a liftmaster remote can be jammed in there and won't come out. The opening size is perfect.

I looked for a premium overhead console forever for my 16 trail. Never found one so I went the mirror option. I tapped it into the ign fuse under the dash. (You know the one everyone uses for raptor lights). Now it only works when the car is on.

Following. I see some with overhead console buttons and others say a mirror version.

Is it a mirror version or overhead console button
on 23 TRD off road premium?

QUOTE=Beams37;3427082]Hey guys,

My TRDOR does not have any kind of more link buttons. The clip on the garage door opener will stretch around the visor, but it doesn't really fit. It kind of sticks out and looks ridiculous.

So ... What the heck does everyone do with their garage door opener?

Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Try replacing the inside mirror with a Homelink/auto dimming/compass mirror from Bob's mirrors: Bob's Automotive Mirrors & More, LLC. : Quality rearview mirrors, backup cameras & accessories to upgrade your vehicle You can get a used mirror from other Toyota models off of Ebay.

That is what I did on my RAV4.
