Garage Door Opener

Hey guys,

My TRDOR does not have any kind of more link buttons. The clip on the garage door opener will stretch around the visor, but it doesn't really fit. It kind of sticks out and looks ridiculous.

So ... What the heck does everyone do with their garage door opener?

Thanks.

Remove the clip and velcro it to a convenient spot on the dash.

Not a bad idea. Just not sure I want to put velcro on a truck I just brought homes yesterday.

Any other ideas?

Well... you could always replace the stock rearview mirror with a HomeLink enabled aftermarket or Toyota OEM unit

Here’s what I did to my wife’s car, and it works really well.
Take the cover off the garage door opener and solder two wires to the contacts that are connected when you push the button to open/close the door. Snake the wires out, protect them, and close the cover. Take out an unused blank switch cover from a convenient location and drill an appropriate sized hole for a push button switch. Get a small momentary push button, install it in the switch blank, connect the wires to the switch contacts. Use Velcro to attach the door opener under the dash somewhere convenient so you can easily get it out to change the battery.
Then you have an attractive little button, and this hides the opener, which thieves sometimes look for to get into garages.

This is the push button I used:

Install a wi-fi controller to your garage door opener and use the phone app to open and close it.

I do this for my motorcycle, opener is under the seat and push button on the bars. If you’re unlucky and have a remote with a contact pad instead of a button it will be a little more difficult to get the wires to solder on and you might burn the pad off if your not careful enough but it’s doable.

Lol I assumed the op used up all 3 home link buttons . Didn’t realize that his TRD or didn’t have home link as I thought all 4runners had them.

I agree, adding Oem upper console with homelink is the best option but the most costly.
