Latest update for 2016-2018 Head Units available (Panasonic models)

Those of us who have 2016-2018 models (and also 2019, but I leave this model outside of the scope of this specific request) with the Head Units ("Entune Premium Audio") made by Panasonic, may have an advantage of installing the latest software update, as several annoying bugs supposed to be fixed.

In short, you would need to obtain and install via 4Runner USB port the 13TDANNA-DA11_0158.kwi file.

NOTE: Please pay attention that this specific update applicable _only_ for Head Units ("Entune Premium Audio") made by Panasonic.

For more details and update procedure, please see the Revision 2 of the following T-SB-0279-17 document:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...52184-9999.pdf

I am sure everyone understands that the .pdf from above has the links to update file that are specific to internal Toyota services and that we can't obtain the needed update using those links included in that document. This document just provides you with the information, but not gives you the update file.

The official Toyota way to obtain the Head Unit update is to download it via Toyota Downloads. But, unfortunately, the Toyota update site does not have that new update that we need. Only the previous version (13TDANNA-DA11_0146.kwi) is available for download. I do not know if that is intentional or just another example of Toyota's post-sale support negligence. Most likely Toyota just wants you to come to the service department. Those who still have warranty, should be able to get that done for free. But those of us who are out of 3 years warranty - we would be required to pay... And all it takes is just insert USB flash in USB port and follow the instructions.

I spent a couple days trying to find that new 13TDANNA-DA11_0158.kwi file, but failed. That is why I would like to see if we have here, in our 4Runner community, the lucky 4runner owner who may have this file.
I see two realistic options on how to find it outside Toyota service.

The first option to check:
==========================
I assume that in the past, when the above TSB was updated to the latest Revision 2, the needed 13TDANNA-DA11_0158.kwi file was available for public download and hope that some of you may obtained it.
If that's the case, please just reply to this thread and share it with everyone here.

The second option to check:
===========================
This is only for people who recently bought the microSD card with the latest Toyota Maps update. I know that with the previous Toyota Maps updates, Toyota used to include the Head Units updates in the ..\Pana directory on the same microSD card.
If you one of the owners who has the latest Toyota Maps, please check your card and help the rest of the community by sharing it.
All you need to do is to take the microSD Toyota Maps card out of Head Unit and read it on any computer/phone/tablet that can accept microSD. If you find that 13TDANNA-DA11_0158.kwi file in ..\Pana directory (or anywhere else on the card), please copy the file and share with us.

NOTE: This file does not store any specific information about your veichle and does not have any of your private information. It is generic for all 4Runners specified at the beginning of this thread. You are not risking anything, but helping others.

I hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance!

I'm asking someone that used to work at Toyota that if he can get me a copy of the file. My Toyota TechInfo subscription ran out or else I'd be able to get it. Not looking to pay $65 to renew it for an update. If I find it or can get a hold of it, I'll post here.

Your wish has been granted. I put it in a txt file. It's uploaded to Mega. Make sure to keep a copy of it. 1 day, I may delete it from my Mega account without realizing it lol.

Download the latest Winrar from WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files.

You'll be able to extract it from there.

Don't these upgrades come via OTA? Cellular? Entune app? I know my unit gets them periodically.

What's the process for USB upgrade method?

This particular update is for the _Audio_ component of the Head Unit. Think about this update as a firmware update.

I have 2016 4Runner and I am pretty sure such updates are not coming to my vehicle via OTA/Cellular and (especially) buggy Entune.

My assumption is that the updates that you are periodically receive are specific to Entune application(s) only.

The USB update process was described in Toyota's TSB that I listed in the very first post. Please re-read it again and check the URL that I provided.

No problem!

Got it installed to your radio? Let me know if you notice an improvement. I installed it to mine, but I don't drive my truck that much because of work =/

I updated my Head Unit with _0158.kwi file on the same day that you posted it here. There is no noticable difference, but I would not expect to see it immediately, as my HU issues were rare and intermittent. It's too early to make any conclusion about problem fixed (or not). The good news - I do not see any regression.

I also had a little hope that Toyota may included Gracenote update within the same _0158.kwi file. But they didn't.
After update my Gracenote screen still has the old values (Library Version: 5.6.2.32, Database Revision: 6819). Well, that were just my wrong expectations. I do not think that our "old" 2016 trucks would ever see the Gracenote update.

Thank you again, Hasoon2000. Have a great weekend!

Is it possible to get a maps update other than going to the dealer?

Hi Hasoon2000, anyway your friend can get the newer firmware file (13TDANNA-DA11_0160.kwi) ? There's a new one per bulletin T-SB-0003-20. I'm still experiencing intermittent rebooting as described in the bulletin. Unfortunately, my dealer wants to charge because my warranty coverage is over.

https://www.toyotanation.com/attachm...ic-pdf.294203/

Appreciate your help!

I sent him a text. Thanks for quoting one of my posts, or else I would've never got a notification.

If he can't get it, if everyone wants to pitch in a few dollars, I'll renew my subscription and download it.

I'd rather do the free route of course

He just got back to me. No go with the new update. Toyota subscription is $65. If people want to pitch in, I'll renew my subscription, download it and upload the file. Any interested in doing so?

I went to the latest TSB as stated before.....but could not download the 160.kwi file......I appears you can from that bulletin...anyone have any luck by chance? Hoping to save a trip to the dealer.

Bob

-----> Edit <------- I see why now....the leading part of the link in the TSB is missing and most likely requires being connected to an authorized Toyota site! Dahhhh!
