Excessive road/tire noise. Dealer says both rear axle bearings?
2013 2WD 4Runner with 93K miles. Noise just became real noticeable, almost overnight. Sounds like I'm running mud tires! Low pitch whine, especially noticeable at 30 to 40 MPH that varies with speed, not RPM. I can't tell where the noise is coming from other than the drive train. Truck in great shape. Well cared for (no off-roading, ever). They quoted me $2050 for new axle assemblies and labor. What? Why does this truck already have bad rear wheel/axle bearings? Does this sound legitimate? If so, I'm sure I will get a non-dealer shop to replace. Wow!
