"Dealer" service interval items

Just got home from having our last free service done on the rig. Next stop, 30K. They were even kind enough to give me a handout listing that for the package dicount price of only $499 it would include plenty of stuff not called for by Toyota's own manual. Alignment and fuel injection service are just a couple of these items. They also recommend intake throttle body cleaning @ $149, 4wd gear oil exchange @ $200 and brake fluid exchange @ $179.

Looking through the manual and doing it myself, as I have all my vehicles for well over 35 years, about the only expenses I will have is for oil and filters.

After what I went through to replace the plugs and coils on my son's 07 with the V-6, I think it's safe to say I'll be able to handle routine maintenance on this thing.

And pray do tell, what the heck is a Toyota Health Check? Not to be confused with a multi point inspection? Finger in the tailpipe?

Peace!
Jeff

Follow the maintenance guidelines (which are primarily oil changes, grease point, tire rotation, brakes and diff oil) and you’ll get 250k without breaking as sweat.

Yup.
Gillette doesn't make money selling razors. They make money selling you the refills.

Which is pretty much what our '05 with 265K has been!

What dealer was that? Hope it's not Wilsonville, they appeared to be a safe place to go when I took our Sienna in.

I already gave up on Capitol after the airbag recall work on my 4Runner.

One of the biggest things I liked about my previous FJ Cruiser and which helped with the decision to trade it for a 4Runner was the ease of maintenance. I'm no expert but I was able to do everything in my garage without screwing anything up. Oil changes, coolant, brake fluid, diffs & transfer case fluid, filters, belts, transmission fluid, and spark plugs were all fairly easy to do. Oil changes every 5k miles and no shield bolts were ever stripped. I don't blame a dealer or any other business for trying to make money but I'm just glad great resources like this forum exist.

Want your Runner to stay like new? Stay far away from Toyota dealerships and their service department. They are only good enough for the recalls, which they foul up, or screw your 4Runner up in some other way while doing the recall.

They are only good for the purchase of the vehicle if that. Eh...

Your in Oregon it looks like yes? I do not know if vehicle servicing runs more out there. I am in North Texas and prices are not cheap here but those costs sound high. You are talking about 9.1 pts of oil for both the front and rear differentials on my 2016 2016 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER (4.0L 6 -cyl Engine Code 1GR-FE 8) Motor Oil, Filters and Lubricants - AMSOIL and what are they doing, unscrewing a drain plug, draining it and refilling. I would look for somewhere else for service.
