What is this part and can it be removed?

What is this part and can it be removed?

It's in the rear spring. Is it a bump stop?

I am putting aftermrket rear springs in this weekend, not sure if this part is still needed.

It's the rear spring seat where the spring meets the frame it sits between the rear coil and the metal perch. As far as I know you would need it for after market springs as well.

I cut the top off of mine to install airbags.

If they don't function as bump stops, why are they so tall?

When they started installing them in the 3rd gen 'Runners, the idea was that it acts as an overload spring of sorts. The idea was to lessen the sag when heavily loaded. You can remove it if you want.

These are Toyota Rear Spring Upper Isolators (Original Equipment).

Original Equipment Toyota Upper Spring Insulators (SPRING SUB-ASSY,). Used to delete the Air Suspension bags and replace with traditional Coil Springs. Not needed if you are putting on coil springs.
