I love the cargo slide deck. I've used my 4R to haul quite a few heavy things already since I purchased it late last year and it has saved my back some extra work whenever I am loading and unloading it. And the fact that it flattens out the trunk is even better as it makes stacking and loading the truck so much easier.

After using mine for 8 years, the only thing that it has been helpful with is loading heavy items that I hauled. It's nice that you can set them on the extended tray and then slide it back in vs. leaning over the bumper to set something heavy in the cargo area. Other than that, the gap that forms when you extend it out makes it hard to store anything in that area.

Picked up a ready to assemble desk over the weekend. It was packed in a flat box about 120 lbs..The cargo slide made it super easy to get it in and out of the back without worrying about dragging it over my bumper..
My step-dad has a '19 limited with 3rd row, so no cargo deck. We did some skiing and had a bunch of equipment in the back, getting stuff in and out without one made me miss my slide deck..

Good point about the hitch as a recovery point, you're right about that.
Aren't the front welded loops tie down points for shipping and not rated for recovery?

Can't seem to put my finger on the exact one, but I'm pretty sure this has been covered at length in quite a few threads. Those loops/hooks up front would be more than sufficient to recover a 4R under just about any circumstance. I haven't had a need yet, but wouldn't hesitate to use them as recovery points..

The sliding tray was the one feature I wasn't able to get on my 4Runner (they get installed at the factory is what I've gleened). I picked one up from a forum member who had one but removed it. It's an easy install, and the only cost effective way to add one. OP, if you don't want yours, there are always folks on this forum looking to buy a used one.
As for use, first and foremost is it levels the back for sleeping. But, it also provides great storage underneath for tools and miscellaneous crap. Beyond that, I love to use it like a pickup tailgate. It gives me a place to set up a stove and cook under the hatch, especially when combined with the SlumberJack Roadhouse tarp.

This is a 1984 4Runner pulling me out by a front loop last April. He is on 40" Super Swampers, thought I could follow him.

I Originally wanted a sliding deck.
The truck I got in 2011 did not have one. they were scarce.
So were the 4-Runners.
I never found a need for it." You don't miss what you've never had".
When I made my storage drawers they were easier to install.
My truck is Recreational use only and is not a daily driver.
Your use may vary

Interested
I posted in WTB for one of the slide outs in the DFW area but no responses yet. Still looking for one. I’m looking to save my back for when we go camping and load up for the apocalypse.

I sold mine to another forum member and installed low profile ARB drawers. I get way better use out of the space underneath now and the top still slides out.
I did have to recreate the flat sleeping surface with a 4x4 and some plywood, but that was easy.
I also added a bunch of tie downs, so either way the t4r is lacking in that area.

I’m planning on getting an Xprite mattress so I can camp a couple nights. I like the safety of sleeping inside away from predators. Also like the quiet without a tent flapping.

I'm in the same boat except my '20 Rubicon is new, hasn't been built, and hasn't had DW. But I miss my '10 4Runner Trail. So I was at the dealer today working a deal on a '20 ORP with the sliding deck. This was one of the things I missed most from the '10.

When you installed it, how did it look behind the seats? I know my Trail had a "hidden" storage compartment there that basically builds up the floor to be flat with the cargo tray.

I'm not sure I really understand your question, but the standard floor just has a sloping piece to get from seat back to the load floor. When I added the tray the hidden storage compartment came with it and bridges the gap between the seat and tray. The floor itself underneath either of those options is the same. You just need to drill a hole through the sheet metal in two places to get to two nuts that are welded in place below the floor. I drilled it from the top using the tray brackets as a template, but if you took out the spare you could probably do it from below too.
