Transmission Cooler Line / Winch Mount
Hey guys, working on installing a BudBuilt hidden winch mount on my ‘12 Trail. See pictures below, can someone confirm that the line running though the middle is a transmission cooler line. If it is, any reason I couldn’t replace the metal line with rubber? Thanks for the input guys!

Yes, that's a coolant line. Replace it w/ rubber.....why? Is it in the way? When installing my SSO low pro bumper I just slightly bent/moved it so it did not interfere w/ my bumper.

...I believe the hard line going across the front is the power steering 'cooler' line, and not an AT cooler line. On the 4Runner, the AT cooler is integrated into the radiator.
Replacing the hard line with a flexible hose could lead to problems with the power steering fluid temps. Yes, that's really a thing.
What is this???
Good luck

I'm getting ready to install a similar bumper by Victory 4X4.
Since the line connects to hose on each end, my plan is to just loosen both ends and the brackets and rotate it up... Worst case replace it with a new hard line bent to clear a winch. I would keep it hard line ether way to protect from impact from road debris..

Great idea! Thank you, I will look into making a new piece. I am going to try flipping it around first, pushing it up or bending slightly will not allow clearance of my winch.

Did you ever do this?
Also, I installed my winch today with the SSO hybrid bumper, and it's touching that line. I ziptied a bit of drawer liner around the tube and it's gently leaning against the solenoid of the winch.
Looking for options, but if the line doesn't get too hot (i'm reading like 120 degrees or less), it's probably not a problem.
Thoughts?

That be a power steering line if I can recall, I just bent mine away. Originally it was leaning on the control box but never had any issues. I can take pics of it later. I have since relocated the control box for accessibility.

No need to overthink it - just bend it slightly out of the way. My build thread as pictures.

If you can't bend it out the way enough, 4x4 labs makes a real cooler to put in its place. It is a "cooler" for the power steering so don't just replace it with hose.

You'll be fine. I zipped some old motorcycle innertube around it, put a old Tacoma mudflap on top of that, and then spilt my winch so the control pack is actually riding on top of the line. No issues.

Running into similar issues with my SSO slimline bumper on my 21 4 runner. I tried to bend the brackets for the cooler line but it still rubs against the winch. I’ll send some pics to the yota dealership in town and ask if they think it’s an issue. I might buy longer soft tubing to extend the height of the cooler tube and mount higher. All I need is 1 inch of clearance...sigh

You need to bend the hard lines below the rubber hoses - pickup a brake line tubing bender to prevent kinking the tube when you bend it.
