Door not unlocking when grab outside handle (smart key)

Starting Saturday, my driver door has not been unlocking consistently when I grab the outside door handle (when I grab the door handle, not press the unlock button on the fob). It will beep normally and it sounds like the unlock mechanism is activating and other doors will unlock (suggesting it's not a sensor problem), but the driver door does not unlock. Sometimes it will beep six times instead of the normal two times, but still not unlock. I do not have the same issue on the passenger side.

It's happened in various locations and I have no reason to suspect any interference or batter problem (~6 months old).

Anyone else experience this / have any suggestions? The manual did not seem to cover my observations.

Sounds like you have a piece of the internal lock mechanism sticking. If you are handy then you can pull the door panel and figure it out. If not, the dealer is but a phone call away lol. Seriously though if all other locks are unlocking then it has to be a lock component in the door. It could be a rod, actuator or even the latch itself.

Thanks, 1E. Door lock mechanism seemed the likely issue, but I figured I'd ask if anyone else has had anything similar before I start taking off panels.

It's actually operated normally today, so I'll wait until it acts up again before taking anything apart.

I had something similar happen in my '10 LE.

Right after I bought it, the passenger side door wasn't locking or unlocked via the door handle. I called the dealer and the service guy said, "Yeah, some of the Limiteds come with the option and some don't."

Uh...... no.

Set up an appointment and told them to fix it. Turns out there was an electrical relay inside the door that wasn't working.

I have a 14 limited and when I grap the drivers door handle that is the only door that unlocks. If I grab the pass door handle all my doors unlock. Is this correct? Only had the truck 2 weeks

Normal. It's a security thing to prevent "unwanteds" from jumping in when driver unlocks door.

And programmable so they all unlock like you have with the passenger door. I think that one is in the owner's manual even.

Hold down the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 5-7sec to change drivers door to open all doors (2 beeps), repeat to change back (1 beep)

Thanks for that info. I had been getting sick and tired of having to walk around my T4R every time I tried to get something out from the passenger side. It took me a couple of minutes to get smart enough to figure that you were referring to the buttons on the smartkey remote.

The recent posts are different than my issue. My issue is not that the passenger door does not unlock when grabbing the driver's door handle or only some doors will open when using the button on the fob. My issue is that the driver's door does not unlock when grabbing the driver's door handle.

It's actually gotten a bit worse since my initial post. Now it will not lock or unlock the driver's door by grabbing the handle, using the button on the fob, or using the lock/unlock button inside the door. I have to manually toggle the door lock and then close the door. I can hit the lock button on the fob and the driver's door will stay unlocked (but the other doors will lock).

I'll see what the issue is tomorrow.

that sounds like the tactile sensor is dead or stuck.
