Purchase Experience: Toyota of Fayeteville in Fayetteville, AR was a fantastic buying experience. Low pressure and best price I could find. Luckily they were about an hour and a half from my wife's family's lakehouse so it wasn't a huge deal to go pick it up.

Service:

I had a bad experience with an alignment and oil change at Molle Toyota in Kansas City, MO and will not be going back there for service. The parts department and sales department are pretty good though.

Hendrick Toyota Merriam, KS: Had them do a few warranty repairs for me and some service before I started doing my own. The advisors are great to work with and very good about working with you to understand problems from my experience. They also introduce me to the techs and let me build a relationship so that I am able to have consistent service from the same tech and treat warranty work the same way they would treat a job I was paying for. They also did the frame recall on the Tacoma I recently bought and the work on the frame replacement was really good.

Here in Utah, I'd give a shout out to Tony Divino Toyota. That's where I bought my '18. I haven't had a ton of experience with their service department, but my interactions that I have had have been good. And, we have a local Facebook group (Utah Toyota Off Road, or UTOR) and they have been sponsors of it since the beginning, including a yearly gathering or expo.

Through my work, I use Larry Miller Toyota in Murray quite a bit. Other than they seem to be way busy, they are always good to deal with when any of my fleet vehicles need service. But, that 'fleet' word may influence the service I get.

I've heard from others that Karl Malone Toyota is good to deal with, but I've never personally experienced them.

Great buying experience in Kansas City at Legends Toyota. Zero complaints about the service department as well. Would definitely recommend.

In the SF Bay Area:

Had a really good purchase experience at One Toyota of Oakland. Also have had good experiences with the service crew there for some oil changes when I was still under the factory plan.

Had a really bad service experience at Marin Toyota. I had to have the seals replaced on my transfer case under warranty at about 10,000 miles because they were leaking, and it was a complete mess convincing this dealer that it was not my fault, and then they screwed up the repair three times. I wrote a letter to the owner of Marin Toyota complaining, and will never go back there.

Worst Toyota dealer in the Bay Area has to be Berkeley Toyota. I would say doing no maintenance is better than taking your car there for maintenance.

I purchased from Toyota Carlsbad and had to work for a good deal on my trade in and around 7% under MSRP on my 2020 TRD ORP. The sales staff was super helpful and all but one that I crossed paths with were knowledgeable (I spoke with 5 different sales managers plus the floor manager—they work as a team I guess). They were flexible. I’d buy from them again.

One trip to the service dept. so far. Awesome experience! Quick, professional, and a good waiting room. Also dealt with their parts dept. and is equally as good. I’m impressed. And after reading about the oil change horror stories, I’m glad to read you’ve had success. I plan to take advantage of the free oil changes.

I have purchased two 4Runners from Luther Toyota in Mpls (Brooklyn Park) and they have done all of my maintenance since. They are excellent. I had to push a little on the prices but they came around and gave me a very fair price.

I have talked to customers in their waiting area when mine is being serviced. They all say the same thing. They trust Luther that they will only perform what is necessary. Luther is as good of a dealer experience that I have had in many , many years of car buying and maintaining. I highly recommend them.

Good info here so far. I should note that buying the Runner at Westbury was a good experience. The salesman and sales manager were nice, polite and worked with me. They seemed to really want to sell me a car and make me happy. I also got more on my trade in than I thought I ever would so all in all, it went really well. I don't know about the service dept yet though.

IMO half the risk is the stealership giving you an honest shake at what needs done, and the other half is making sure they do it right. If you know your car and how it works, with a heavy dose of skepticism, you’ll judge for yourself if they’re being honest about required work. But when you get it back, be diligent and inspect everything. My Jeep dealership awhile ago, on a warranty fix, forgot to install a number of bolts around the radiator.

I purchased and have had all my service completed at Fred Anderson in Raleigh. Easy people to deal with, clean waiting room and a lady baking fresh cookies in the refreshment area

- Toyota of North Charlotte is a NO NO!! 3 miles from my place, will never go again. General Manager is the worst.
- Hendricks Toyota has been good so far (got my wife's Highlander).
- Scott Clark Toyota is good but kind of far for me (got my 4R).

For 30+ years I’ve purchased Toyota’s from Scott Clark Toyota in Charlotte. Great service department. In 2015 I moved to SW Virginia and bought my last 4 Runner from Mt. Airy Toyota in Mt. Airy North Carolina. Couldn’t have asked for a better buying experience and after 2 years I’ve got nothing but good things to say about their service department. If I’m ever disappointed with Mt. Airy I’ll go to Hendrick Toyota in Concord NC. My old service manager (Mark Becker) from Scott Clark is now at Hendrick. Great service managers are your friend!

Yikes!

I hope my knock on wood works!

That is a speedy road it is on, so a block away he was going 40 or so at least if I recall correctly, that would be catastrophic.

Dude. Koons Arlington's sales person put the wrong screws in for the rear license plate holder and it ended up scratching the entire rear windshield whenever it was rolled down. dick service manager tried to accuse me of putting them on when i got my new plates in. basically told them, 'why would i have wrong screws if i'm replacing temp plates with new plates that came in the mail? you unscrew then put new plates on then re-screw. why would i have a pair of wrong screws laying around at the time of installing new plates?'

long story short, i escalated my issue with the service director and GSM - they took care of it. had to wait few weeks for factory replacement to come in. warren is a good man

Yeah, but it was in rush hour so it was 5 or 10 mph.

Funniest part - a cop is a few cars behind him and sees the wheel come off, the car comes crashing down on the rotor, the suspension folds in and the car is sitting on the fender.

Cop gets out of his car, walks up and says "move the car now or I'll have to ticket you". My boss points to the car and says "you want it moved, turn on those fancy lights and drive across the street to the dealership and get somebody to move this" Cop gets in his car, gets on the radio and a few minutes later a handful of guys from the dealership come over with a jack and a dolly and push the car into a parking lot.

They ended up ordering him a new car and he ended up with a car a couple years newer for about $2k

Yeah, so while they screw up periodically, they'll usually do the right thing if you escalate it properly.
