Burning Smell After Flooring it for the First Time

Yesterday, driving on the highway, I floored my '19 SR5 for the first time since I bought it in September with 6k miles; It's currently at just under 12k. Afterward, there was a burning smell that maybe lasted a minute or so.

Is this something to be worried about? I'm assuming maybe it was just burning some buildup in the engine. I checked under the hood and didn't notice any oil anywhere. Maybe it was the clutch?

Either way, just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or could shed any light.

You're probably just driving it "too easy." A few things can happen, like harmless carbon buildup that comes out under heavy load (do a google search for "italian tune-up"). There's also catalyst poisoning from sulfur and other compounds in gasoline. This decreases the effectiveness of the catalyst which can lead to both a burning and a rotten egg smell. High engine load can burn up and expel those compounds and restore its effectiveness.

I've always found that my vehicles run better when the engine is ran out on the regular. It's what on-ramps are for Regardless, the engine is almost definitely fine.

There's no clutch in an automatic - but it might have been the torque converter heating up. My mom lives up on a mountain, and every car I've ever owned, including my 2010 4runner, has smelled a little burn-y when I get there. Doesn't seem to have ever caused problems.

My bad, you're right. I meant torque converter. Thanks for the info!

My man, it's no longer 1982. Time is long past where cats affect power.
