2013 T4R engine ticking noise

Hi,
I have a 2013 4runner SR5 with 20,000miles. The engine has this ticking noise that sounds like a valve noise more noticable on the right side. I took it to the dealer and they told me that the noise is a normal noise for that engine. Does anybody knows about this? Is your 4runner also has that ticking engine noise.
Thanks for your help!

When you start it up and for about 5 minutes after? Sounds like valve clatter?

Sorry I don't know anything about it lol. J/K yes mine does it too. I really don't care if anyone elses does it as its no big deal to me.

Same here. I have been to two Toyota dealers and one independent Toyota shop and they all tell me it is perfectly normal for the 5th gens.

Same. Mine has done it since day one and I believe my brother's 4th gen even sounds similar as well.

They all do it. Roller rocker cams in the new (for 2010) dual VVTi 1GR-FE 4.0 V6.

Pretty sure my old 2007 Tundra did it as well. Didn't bother me either.

Its common, there is a pwm valve that ticks on the drivers side of the engine compartment, if its the same place as tacomas.

It is most likely the fuel injectors. They can be quite loud. Listen to any fuel injected engine and you will hear a clatter that sounds very similar to valve lash noise.

All 1GR-FE engines, be them single or dual VVTi seem to have this "Toyota Tick." Sources seem to range from VSC valves, rocker rollers, fuel injectors, ect. All I know is that these engines tick and are more noticeable with the window down at idle; my suggestion? Apply throttle and listen to some tunes, should quiet it down.

My 2013 FJ made the same sound, I was also informed this is normal for these engines by my local dealerships service manager.

Not worried!

I am reviving this thread because I have 3 5th gens and only my 2013 does this. The dealer told me it was normal and all of them do it. So.. I drove my 2010 to the dealer and showed them it does not make the noise. (this was several months ago)

They said they would log it in case there were problems down the road. When I pulled my 2013 out of storage the other day, the noise (it is inside my shop) sounds twice as loud as normal. Again my 2015 does not make the noise at all. Our 4th company 5th gen (owned by GD2013) also does NOT make the noise. Sou our of our 4, only one does it... This disproves that "ALL" of them do it.

Has anyone else had the dealer look at this issue and actually had the noise fixed?
