I put this toolkit together when I had my FJ Cruiser. Basic tools with the most common metric sockets. If I were going on a trip like yours then I would want more tools like a 1/2" drive ratchet & sockets, breaker bar, etc.

Where did you used to live that you owned these?? These are definitely NOT "FL Panhandle" vehicles.

Japan. The Jimny and Naked were my favorite.

I just finished updating my tool bag for my new 4R. A full metric socket standard and deep socket (1/2" & 3/8) 8mm-24mm. (i have standard set as well since my work requires it)

I got some tools from Harbor freight but i was lucky Sears was closing near me so i got a ton of Craftsman tools for cheap.

Vice grips
1/2" & 3/8" extensions
Knipex Pliers
needle nose pliers
adj wrench
Phillips screw drivers
Flathead screw drivers
zipties
Gorilla duct tape
electrical tape
fuses
Small sledge hammer
Breaker bar
Allen/Torx keys
Oil filter
Test light

This tool bag was perfect: 15 in. Tool Bag with 15 Pockets

I need to get a pry bar and Oil filter canister wrench still.

If you're going to use a tool bag (instead of a tool roll), I'd highly recommend packing a few spare rags. Use the rags to strategically wrap around the tools and take up dead space in the bag. Not only will this cut down on the noise of rattling tools, more importantly it'll stop hardened steel implements from rubbing and vibrating up against each other over tens of thousands of miles. You'd be surprised how badly tools can get scratched and chewed up just from knocking around in a bag.

Bucket Boss Super Roll

Great beta on all the tools y'all are packing. I have nothing to add there, but I love this tool roll from Expedition Exchange: Outdoor Sports Store - Expedition Exchange Incorporated | Expedition Exchange Incorporated

Definitely, good point.

Most of the main tools in the bag are broken up into 2 tool rolls. One for ratchets, pliers, most used misc, while the other holds all the wrenches. Then a small towel to take up the rest of the space so it all fits nicely.

Ill get some pictures at some point.

A basic metric toolset will cover almost everything. I carry both a 3/8 and 1/2 set w/ short and deep sockets from 8mm-22mm, along with wrenches, a breaker bar, and torque wrench.
I have been keeping track of the tools I use on my mods and have been doing my own work and maintenance on the vehicle since getting it. Everytime I do a job I put those tooks aside and combine them when I can.

I use currently use a Blue Ridge Overland tool roll and love the quality. I'm going to pick up a bag and small assortment bags at Expo West.

Thanks for all the helpful tips.
Cheers and safe travels.

Since we're throwing chips for US made tool bags/rolls...

ShopRoll - Adventure Tool Company

Which fits, apart from a some pullers, everything to tear a 89-present Toyota BOF truck down to the frame, sparing fitting a 35mm 1/2 and impact driver.

Nice to hear! I’ve the same experience. I have a few of their other bags too. I really like waxed canvas so it’s kind of a shoe in for me. The tool roll, I have about ~35 lbs of tools in it, use it all the time and man it’s well built. I wish I had kids to leave it too because there’s no way I am going to wear it out, if I did they’d fix it
