Hmmmm, news to me. AWD can't be put into 2WD and doesn't have a low range. Seems different.

I searched for dirt roads and found some posted by a motorcycle group. So now i have a place to go since there are very few dirt roads around me. YouTube

Definitely wouldn't engage 4WD on pavement if at all possible. Especially since i would want to go though 4H 4L and rear locker, maybe even test the other 4WD settings.

Where to exercise your 4wd in the off season.

Yes, you have more options with the transfer case, but 4hi is the same as awd.

Anyone drive their V6 4Runner in 4wd all of the time?

Awd = front and rear diff(usually open) and a limited slip center differential

4wd = front and rear diff(usually open like our t4r) and a limited slip center diff, an option to lock, and usually with a transfer case to add low.

Older school 4x4s did not have lsd center diffs which is why they should not be operated on dry pavement when engaged in 4wd.

I guess we think of 4x4 as more manly so companies still refer to it as that rather than saying you have an awd truck

To me “real” awd is lsds all the way around like my 02 WRX

Torsen or LS center diff is on the Limiteds, which have "full-time 4wd" which is not true 4wd like all the other 4wd 4runner models.

Which is how Trails, TRDs, and my SR5 work.

I'm guessing you have a Limited?

I exercise the 4WD not AWD runner ,,, I do the 4WD lo/hi on a dead end street 1/2 mile long.. so I can run it with no cars on the street..

the other time I do it I will drive on the beach down in Florida.

almost 4 yrs old pops in quickly 4wd.. when NEW had a delay to engage..
