New Pioneer floating head unit - anyone tried this?
https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/P.../DMH-WT8600NEX
Looks like Crutchfield will be offering this very soon but wanted to see if anyone has given it a shot. The Alpine Halo was the only viable floating unit and this one seems to be a worthy contender. Going to mock up the monitor size in the cab but I love the look and adjustability, plus the 2 camera input.

As far as I know these new Pioneer's go on sale in Mid-March 2020. Don't think anyone has given it a shot yet. I'm keeping an eye on the slightly smaller 9-inch 7600NEX floating unit. Really like my 7-inch 4400NEX, but I have big screen envy.

I originally thought about going to the Alpine when I was deciding on a new radio. After seeing pictures mounted in the 4Runner, it just didn't look all that good. The real deal breaker for me is what the reviews were saying. People were saying with the larger screen, they didn't add more pixels from the smaller touchscreens, so the screen is not very crisp. I don't have real world experience with that but that's just what swayed me away in the reviews. I wonder if the Pioneer is the same way.

Can't wait to see someone install this baby. Definitely on my list to eventually upgrade the audio system.

I expect $ to be steep and not excited about it covering more of vents. Some adjustability, but seems it will always be blocking something/awkward.

Love the idea and the capacitive screen. Just seems almost too big though and like it would be in the way.
I regret blowing $$ on the 4500nex anyway.

Im on the fence yet. Kenwood, Pioneer and Alpine are in the game this year for floating screens. Alpine was the early adopter.
I actually know people from each company. We shall see how the play out. I'm not a big fan yet.

I was thinking their modular system with a custom mount might be an option. Spec wise, it looks like the 8" modular screen is about as big as our dash will take without blocking controls. Waiting to see the actual screen and bracket dimensions of the 9" before I make the final decision.

Currently running a 8000NEX. I'm not happy with it but it was in my Tacoma so I transferred it over.
This new unit only had one USB C input in the back. It just means a new cable

I've got AVH-W4500NEX's in our 5th gen 4R and our GX470, and absolutely LOVE them! The only real complaint is the screen size compared to the stock piece of junk the 4R came with, but the functionality and polish are just miles ahead, wireless carplay is huge.
This new floating unit would be perfect in my HDJ81...

Wanted to provide an update. Based on the calculator, a 10.1" screen at 16:9 will be 8.8" wide and 5.0" tall. I cut a piece of paper to size and mocked it up in the truck. It is a ridiculously good fit and with the adjustment features I would almost guarantee no interference with the vents up top or the controls below. I think I've found my next head unit.
