Odyssey 25-PC1400T alternative?

Mega frustrated here. New to the forum so forgive the venting.

Bought the Genesis Off Road dual battery kit in January with plans to immediately install in my 'new' 2017 TRD Off Road. After ordering the spec'd Odyssey 25-PC1400T from an Amazon seller only to have the package not show up, I was pretty ticked off. Finally, they responded to repeated emails that they don't in fact have the battery. After WAY too many hours searching other retailers' inventory and lots and lots of phone calls, I learned today that pretty much every single US distributor of Odyssey batteries is out of the 25-PC1400T and will be for at least a month, possibly up to 9 weeks.

Seriously considering returning the Genesis kit after reading about so many much much cheaper builds for a dual battery setup on this forum. I have some time on my hands and I'm slightly handy with electronics.

BUT, anyone out there install a different battery in the Genesis kit?

Or, does anyone out there see any reason a set of Optimas wouldn't work just as well in the kit? I've asked Genesis about the fit and they say the red tops can work with a little bit of trimming of the bracket. Not as many cold cranking amps but maybe I don't need them? My uses are a Dometic CF50 fridge and some camp lighting at night but otherwise, no winch or light bars, etc. (not yet anyway).

Basically, can anyone give me a good reason to KEEP the kit?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly, unless you really wanted a custom setup you are probably better off keeping what you have. Either way once you buy battery mount, relays, wire etc and the proper crimps/crimper you will be in it at least that much money if not more even if you DIY.

Also I think that optimas are just not the same quality as they used to be, so its worth waiting for the odyssey, or maybe getting an X2 or something equivalent that will fit.

I order my Odyssey batteries directly from Odyssey. They are just as cheap there and sometimes you can find a discount code. They arrive in a 2 days and are very fresh, usually made the week or 2 before being shipped.

Tried that...

Hey. Thanks for the input. Tried that. I placed an order on the Odyssey site which was "assigning for delivery" for 7 days. After 3-4 phone calls with reps promising to get back to me (none of them did) many many chat windows I finally just called the office and asked for the national rep and asked him point blank why I could'nt find this battery and he said they're out at the factory and that it would be a 9 week lead time for the battery.

Nobody's fault really, but the Genesis kit pretty much relies on the Odyssey battery unless you wanna get a cheapo autozone Group 25, which I do not.

Northstar agm is just as good. You can probably find it locally under the x2 power brand at batteries plus bulbs.

Isnt the genesis just a solenoid kit? You could build that for half the cost even if you had to buy the tools

and the battery mount and the wiring. If you can find someone to fab the mount for you yes its cheaper, but the mount itself is expensive from any company. At least a good, reliable one that wont crack or tear the body up.

I use the shrockworks myself, but after buying all the necessary parts and tools it is quite a bit more expensive than the plugnplay genesis kit. Being able to customize it to your needs is better though if you need/want it and are willing to pay a bit more.

You bring up a really good point here too. My Odyssey 31m weighs 80 pounds, this kit the batteries alone are 100lbs, most people with cracked fenders are running 31s. So, not really sure adding yet another 20+ lbs to that location is all that great an idea. I guess time will tell.

$100 for a mount (or like $20 for a plain one), $50 for a hydraulic wire crimper, $20ish for fittings, $30-$50 for wire, $20 for a solenoid... even if you get a really overkill battery cage you're still a long way from the cost of a kit.

The only thing not accounted for here of course is time. The time to build it all is worth a lot also. BUT, after all these responses I'm leaning towards a second battery at the passenger side location. Yes, it's more work but I've got to learn how this stuff works if I want any chance of being able to fix it down the line.

Thanks all.

This is reason enough right here. Thanks for the feedback.

where do you find a good non-universal, bolt in 5th gen battery tray/mount kit for $20, let alone $100? The shrockworks kit with air pump relocation is 250. >300 if you get the blue sea ACR/fuse mount for the driver side battery tray as well. I think even the upper passenger side mounts are like 120+ but those have problems cracking or tearing the fender.

I used an ML-ACR which is about $180. I looked up the solenoid used in the genesis kit and even that is >100 by itself.

I suppose you "could" do a budget build for the pricing you mention. I guess it depends on a persons budget/needs etc.
