30K Service

I have 30K on my 2010 4Runner and when I called the dealer for a quote for the transfer case service and diff oil change, I was quoted ~350. Um yeah...I walked away from that.

I looked in the Manual to see what the recommended oil/fluid is for the diff and transfer case, but I would like to find out if anyone has done the service and what they have used.

Thanks,

Pete

There are some services I will do myself, but I went ahead and paid the money ($600+) for fluid changes in front & rear diffs and the transfer case, in addition to the other recommended services. The tried to sell me on a "battery service" and an "EFI service", which I declined as they are not in the manual. IMO, there are times to get your hands dirty and there are times to let the pros handle the big services, for me that is every 30k.

Diff and transfer case oil changes are one of the easiest tasks you can do. My fluid cost around $80 to change all 3.

Diff and transfer case is easy as long as the fill hole plugs are not seized. Check them first before opening the drain plugs. Trans is a little more difficult, or technical is probably more accurate. There is a write up on here somewhere on how to do it correctly to insure a full fluid change. Make sure you get the correct crush washers for all.
