You were gifted $1,000 to spend on your 4R, what’s the first thing you buy?
You have a stock SR5 Prem 4WD. Brand new everything.
What’s the first modification(s)/add-on you spend on? Why?

Tires (dunlops are okay but you can do way better and more than likely be able to sell the stock dunlops for a good price while they're new), any left over, seat covers (obviously to protect your seats), then floor liners (to protect your carpet/floor). YMMV

Dirt King Long Travel LCA's and UCA's
King Coilovers and Bypasses
Full Length Roof rack
And with the remaining $500, I'd buy a supercharger.

Tires.
I did skid plates, full set, as #2, but if I were to do it all over again, it would be suspension #2 and skids #3. Note that I say suspension and not lift (mine is just 1.3.1).
The stock tires cannot handle any half-serious terrain let alone the desert. I know a guy who got stuck in a place where no Subaru would have been--or 4R on any AT tires. And a journalist on stock tires got stuck in a couple inches of snow with the Subarus driving by a few years ago. Plus punctures, etc.
You don't want to drive over rocks big enough to need aftermarket skids on stock tires. And the small, fist-sized rocks over which we all drive in the desert are nasty.

Tires. Because the stock ones don't match the vehicle if you use it as intended. Next would be a real skid plate. The stock is pretty thin and I use mine.

AT or MT tires, it needs to look tough with non HT tires.

With majority stating tires, what made you go with full skid plates?

I saw this deal at Costco couple days ago, but its not shown on their online store? Is it worth buying tires from Costco? (I’m a new member)

I don’t off-road much, so off-road tires would wear down on mostly pavement. Rather keep the OEM tires on for daily driving, and have another set of wheels with off-road tires to swap on for planned trips.
