Think twice before ordering from eTrailer
I placed an order for a set of Yakima roof basket rubber pads on May 3rd. I knew the item was back ordered as it seems like everything is these days. But I had time before our trip, so wouldn't be a problem. When the item came in, they didn't ship it out because the pre-authorization for my PayPal payment had expired and they didn't tell me in time and the item sold out. I re-authorized PayPal payment. and waited until the item was back in stock at the beginning of June. But they still didn't send it out! I called and the woman on the phone said it would be sent right out with "expedited shipping" as my trip was approaching. A week later it STILL hasn't shipped! I contacted them via Chat and told me the item was now out of stock until AUGUST! The rep gave no apology, not seeming to care at all, TERRIBLE handling of my order! Never again with eTrailer!

Bummer to hear, but it sure sounds like you lost your "place in line" when your PP authorization failed. Pretty standard ecomm practice, especially right now with supply issues being what they are.
eTrailer has been one of the best online retailers I have ever used. Hoping this was just an exception for them....

Using etrailer wasn't your problem, it was the payment method. I've used etrailer for years, great service.

How so? I got an email from eTrailer a couple weeks before it was back in stock showing the PayPay pre-authorization had been reissued, and called when I saw it hadn't shipped out yet. The woman assured me it was good to go and would go out that day, which it didn't. I guess chalk it up to "Your mileage may vary".

In the last 10 years, I have used PayPal for hundreds of payments. Not one caused a problem with an order not being processed. Sorry, this one's on eTrailer Customer Service.

these things happen no matter where you buy, systems fail or don't work as expected sometimes. you are just unfortunate this happened to you and tried to persuade people not to order from them. but i feel you, you have some trip that is coming and you are under pressure. just order again and return the one you don't need. i've never had any issue with etrailer using a credit card.

Fair enough. While I didn't say "don't buy" from them, it was a warning that one needs to leave plenty of lead time to get their item, and stay in touch to make sure they follow through. If the guy I spoke to who told me the part was now not available until August, after I told him want happened, had been even slightly sympathetic, I wouldn't have posted this. But he was like "Well, do you want me to cancel your order then?" He was a dick, and if that's who they keep as a "representative" of their company, no thanks. I have had better Customer Service from Comcast Cable than that. 7% or their reviews on Trust Pilot are One Star, including mine. Don't know how that compares to other online retailers, but will seek out someone else next time.

etrailer - Crutchfield - Tire Rack Fan
Big fan of etrailer customer service and research info.
I've used them several times with no problems.
Think you must be that 1% where something went wrong.
Crutchfield another great site with all sorts of info and great service.
You can call them mid-install when you do something dumb and they will talk you through it.
And I like Tire Rack as well.

One fun fact about Crutchfield:
When you order Scosche speaker adapters for aftermarket sound fitment, Crutchfield includes the correct screws, and Amazon does not include screws.

Glad you have had good luck with them, and wouldn't try and persuade you from re-ordering from them. But there are other choices out there I intend to use in the future.
