Key Programming on Newer 4R using Techstream

Couple weeks back, I purchased a 2012 4runner Trail with only one master key. The dealership quoted me $260 for a single key replacement. I ended up programming and cutting TWO spare keys myself for around $60.

The process for this is not super clear. There was a lot of trial and error. To help anyone else out I documented my experience. Check out the video I posted...

i followed a video on youtube when i cloned my smart key. my truck was also sold with one key. the process was straight forward. to be honest, the installation of the software was harder then programming the key but thanks for you video, i'm sure it will help others out.

Been considering making a video of how to install software, but don't know if there is enough demand.

I bought the last one in stock when purchased on amazon. Can't seem to find the posting anymore. You can really buy any cable that says 'mini vci' with a model number of J2534

I found one here on Amazon, but its a bit more expensive than what I paid...Looks like this guy offers techstream included as a download file as well

i think as long as you get Mini-VCI J2534, 32b or 64b depending what kind of pc you have.. i think they are all the same.

A few years ago I bought my 2015 and it came with 1 key. I ordered 2 from ebay got them cut and went to the dealer and had them programmed. The keys were about $50 ( including cutting at a local locksmith ) and the Toyota dealer charged $100.00 to program both keys. I have 3 good keys with working remotes. Dealer wanted close to $400 for 2 keys and programming.
