Who has the PT228-89190/PT228-89191 rails?

Yeah, there's some mentions here and there but I don't think there's a full thread for people who have them and run them. So what's the verdict? I'm a weekend warrior on my best day and I'd like a little protection for a random rock. The most action I would ever see is maybe running Black Bear Pass one day.

I know these rails aren't as sturdy as the $1,000 plus options but they seem to be steel, frame mounted, and can hold the weight of the truck. So who owns these OEM rails, has experience with them, has hit rocks with them, has some photos, etc? Thanks all!

Mine came pre-installed on my 2021. Sturdier than expected and tucked in close, not really usable as a step though. The semi-gloss finish on Themis done well and blends into the body pretty well.

You are correct that they bolt to the frame and I could see them protecting the expensive-to-repair lower sills of the body if you lay it onto a rock. I don't think you'd want to be dragging / dropping the weight of your truck onto them repeatedly, but I kind of see it as a "sacrificial" crush point between a rock and the lower sills.

A little lighter than most aftermarket options, so that may factor into things for you.

All of that being said, I'm replacing mine with the RSG angled sliders with bump out. The other two people that ride with me need a step, I also spend enough time on trails where the actual rear bump out has proven helpful on my last 4Runner and GX.

Thanks for the honest feedback! To be completely honest, we had our Tacoma for 2 years and Medano Pass was the most "terrain" the vehicle saw outside of sand hills outside town. While I have aspirations for a full trail rig, being honest with myself means admitting I likely don't need $1,000+ sliders. Basically I need an something that can prevent the rocker panel from caving if something goes unexpectedly wrong. I'm leaning toward OEM for that if I'm honest. Thanks again!

I just took them off a few weeks ago when I picked up my new 4Runner. Like the others commenter said, I need something usable as a step for my kids. I picked up a set of slightly used CBI sliders off someone here. The OEM ones are definitely lighter and only had 5 bolts holding them on.

Let me know if you have any other questions on them, they are still in my garage and I’m trying to sell them.

If you were closer I would be all about making a deal. I'm sure shipping would be scary on these. I thought they were 6 bolt per side (not that that makes a large difference) but in either case, did they seem sturdy enough for light rocks or logs? Thanks!

I would think so, should save your panels/doors for a few good hits. I will say as well, a few of the bolts were a huge pain in the ass to get out. Just due to how the brackets are set up, the bolts on top took some time and patience.

I removed my side steps since kids are grown and they sit too low and order the rails. I can't justify over 1000k for high end sliders since there's no rocks where i live. These will fit the bill for kicking snow/sand off my boots before I get in the truck and will add protection on fire roads from any damage from a hidden stump .
