5000 mile service

Getting the first maintenance service on my 2019 TRD OR tomorrow evening. Should be just a tire rotation and a basic look over. Wish there was an oil change listed, but that's not until 10k miles. This is my first vehicle that uses full synthetic oil.

Now’s the time to get familiar with basic 4R maintenance. Starting with an oil change. It’s not difficult. Here’s a long thread with lots of good DYI info:

Good luck!

I watched a youtube video a few days ago on how to change the oil and filter. Doesn't look too bad.

I might pay for an oil change at 5K. I just don't like going until 10K even with synthetic.

Most of the UOAs I’ve seen for major oil brands (e.g., Mobil 1, Pennzoil, Valvoline, Amsoil, etc) have plenty of life left when they were analyzed at <10k miles and are good for at least 10k OCIs.

I haven’t splurged on Blackstone myself, maybe will do so one of these oil changes. But I’ve seen enough evidence that 10k OCIs are perfectly fine.

5,000 mile service is check all drive train fluids ... I had to change the rear diff gear oil .. looked bad off color..
since Toyota now uses synthetic the oil used worked beTter than in my 2016 runner had sludge under the fill cap.. after I switched to the mobil synthetic so sludge .. reason I did the oil change at 3K miles ..

the other work is grease the drive shafts and slip yokes .. then do it every oil change .. just a couple of slow pumps into the grease fittings .
28K miles on it never brought it into the dealership..
I DO HAVE TO GET THAT AIR BAG REPLACED...

I switched last Nov 19 to toyota 0-20wt oil.. the engine is very quiet on cold starts.. only use SN PLUS !!!! not SN... mobil synthetic created the noise was SN spec and no molybdenum in it ..additive coats the metal parts reduces wear and corrosion improves crankcase ventilation ..
rotate tires every 7-10K miles . also springs take a sag so the toe maybe off a bit..

I'm fairly certain that my 5K service only consisted of messing with my seat settings and leaving a faint whiff of BO behind.

Most synthetic oils don't begin to oxidize until about 10,000-15,000 miles. With synthetic oils, just changing the filter at 5000 miles would be a benefit as most filters aren't designed to last beyond 7500 miles. Changing the oil prematurely will help with removing some of the contaminants in the oil, but will not drastically change anything, as the oil has not reached the end of its life cycle.

If you are running a conventional dyno oil, that is a different story. It will begin to oxidize and break down at about 5000-7500 miles, about the same time as when most oil filters lose their filtering capabilities.

So would it be a good idea to replace the oil filter soon?

They rotated my tires and checked the air pressure. The paper says they had 48 lbs of air in them...is that what is normally ran? I would keep my 07 Murano at 35 lbs. 48 seems a bit high, unless the factory tires are designed for that.
