What's the minimum needed to mount an awning

I have a 20' TOP with just the basic OEM rails, I'd really like to add an awning for some of the camping and day trips we take but not really in the market for a rack ATM. Is there an option to mount to stock or maybe just a simple rail upgrade I could do?

Doing something like LFD Off Road's cross bars would give you a solid base to mount the awning (and anything else) to. I know people have installed awnings on the stock rack before as well

Stock rails will hold an awning with the right brackets. Rago makes them - Toyota 4Runner Canopy/ Awning Mounts For Factory Roof Rail – Rago Fabrication

The regular brackets mine came with are perfectly fine for mounting to the OEM rails. You don't need to buy anything extra if you don't want to. $80 for a couple of stamped brackets is a ridiculous waste of money BTW.

If the brackets the awning you purchase require a horizontal mount you can buy 2 of these for about $10: (FM-015-A) 15 Series 1.5″ Floor Mount Base Angle | TNUTZ

Damn, I'm glad you made this thread. I thought you needed the rack, which I'll get at some point but for $1,700 plus tax and shipping it might be a while. Now I'll get the awning sooner.
