i don’t think there’s any question that the TRD’s finer, synthetic media actually does filter better, but can understand that many people don’t care about that, or believe it to be necessary.
what i do find odd is that those same people often seem to happily shell out beaucoup bucks for a Gobi rack, N-Fabs, Pro wheels, LED headlights, “Raptor” lights, a “Salt Life” sticker, and so on. but pay $10 more for a premium oil filter you’ll probably replace once a year? oh, hell no!
I got them on clearance a while back, and that's the only reason I got them, but for 4 bucks it wasn't bad

FWIW - it is probably worth using real OEM oil filters. (people are basically doing the same think with their "performance" aftermarket air filters that also add no power).
i don’t know what you’re referring to specifically, but i wasn’t calling you out personally in any way whatsoever; just my general observation.
I was agreeing with you that it's more of a name brand thing than anything. The only reason I purchased some was when they were on clearance. I didn't purchase them because they were TRD brand lol

I've been using the TRD filter. It's got the same construction as the Mobil1 extended performance filters I've been using on my other Toyota and that's been working well for me (not that I'd necessarily know if it wasn't, or if a cheaper filter would do just as well, but my oil reports from Blackstone look good and I'm happy).
I don't think I've noticed any increase in HP or torque. Maybe if I paint the oil filter housing red I can get more power.

The above video is something everyone should be aware of. Counterfeit filters, spark plugs, and other "consumables" are being sold all over (Amazon is a big problem).
I'd recommend buying your products directly from Toyota, or a parts store.
As far as the TRD Filter, it is made my Champion Labs, which also makes the extended interval filter for Amsoil and Mobil 1. I've had all three, and they all appear to be largely identical filters.
If you purchase on one of Toyota's sales 20% off with free shipping, you can snag these for about $12 a piece (or less). Much cheaper than what you pay for the Amsoil or Mobil filter. If you are doing longer drain intervals without swapping the filter midway, it may be worth it, as these filter better than the OEM filter...
