I heard you only make power gains with that on a TRD PRO. Any truth to that?

I’ve gotta find these TDR oil filters at the best price. When I do my next oil change I’m out of stock at home. I usually buy 2-3 at a time to reduce the shipping but buying them at the dealership was expensive but still cheaper than all of the mail order places I checked las time.

The Mobil 1 version oil filter was almost as expensive but not nearly as nice and shiny.

I picked up a few for $15/ea, shipping seemed to be flat at $10 at least for the first 6.

It was mentioned earlier that Champion Labs manufacturers Toyota, Mobile1 and others. I don't know that to be a fact but it wouldn't surprise me a bit. I would also think WIX has some of this business as well. Both these plants make a large variety of oil filter brands. Between the 2 they likely hold 95% or more of the filter business in North America. I've sold both plants socket screws which they go through like water, being a high speed stamping plant.

As far as this meaning all the mentioned brands are alike? I wouldn't be on it. Some, like Mobile1 have the reputation that allows them to charge more. That doesn't necessarily equate to a better product. Some brands go after the price market. Each brand can and do specify their own specs which allow or dictate a lower or higher selling price.

Now, if you really want to obtain far superior filtration in the neighborhood of 100K miles between oil changes. (that wasn't a typo) There's several companies that mfg. an add on filter that removes un-burnt fuel, water and solids down to 1micron. These are the things that naturally get into your oil and cause frequent changes. One such company is called Petrosavers out of New Orleans. Their element, at least at the time I sold their product was made from highly refined cotton. Looked close to a spool of thread or yarn and dropped into a coffee can so to speak.

If you went with this type of system I'd recommend changing the pass through filter every 20 or 30K miles. I'm thinking they'd degrade at some length of time, but can't prove it. If you're using oil, every time you add a quart you're also bringing up to spec the additive package. If you're not using oil I guess I'd drop a quart or so when you change your filter, then top it off.

These filters are used a lot in truck fleet operations, marine shipping & tug boats, as well as railroads. But they do offer small units appropriate for passenger cars.

TRD Oil Filter

I've been running the TRD Oil Filter since 2008 on my 2 FJ's. Synthetic filter material vs paper filter is the main advantage. Sure they cost a bit more but it's worth it.

I ordered 6 of these for $14 at a dealer sale back in June 2021. Only 1 came in so far, and the other 5 are still on back order. Not sure what's going on with the supply chain.

Sparks has them.

I ordered 6 from Sparks a couple of months ago. You have to put the part number in and search for them.

As of right now, they are $16.80 each plus shipping

Hmm. Totally unnecessary but since i have so much time between oil changes and i get them done at the dealer anyway i might as well try this out simply do to the better quality. Looks like its manufactured in the US as well.

LOL...in reality, "red" o-rings commonly indicate "Viton". It is a flouropolymer elastomer and synthetic rubber compound. In a nutshell, it with stands temperatures beyond 210*C and can still maintain its strength and shape.
FWIW...K&N filters for the 4Runner come with the viton rings for the housing and the bottom cover. The TRD (champion Labs) uses them on the sealing edge on both ends of the filter.
They are a better product than Nitrile rubber for this type of application.
And are, significantly more expensive than Nitrile.
