I will soon be purchasing a set of Toyo AT3 in the stock size and P load range. Will I need to have these road force balanced? Or should I just have them mounted/ standard balanced and see how that is? Whats everyones expert opinion on this?

I don't think road force balancing on a larger tire like on the 4R is worth it unless you are still having problems after a normal balance. usually, at that case it is probably a problem with the tire itself.

Installed!

Thanks everyone for all the advice in the thread! I recently got the 285/70/17 P Rated AT3 installed with the Westcott Pro Lift Kit. After install, road force balance, and alignment the vehicle actually drives better than stock when I picked it up from the dealership two weeks ago.

I hope you have better luck with them than I have. 22k miles later almost to the wear bars and they are so chopped they sound like an old set of swampers. Alignment is good and I rotate every oil change. I'm going back to BFG's.

What size, load range, and pressure did you run? How many miles do you run between oil changes (aka tire rotate for you)?

SL load 285/70/17 at 35PSI and rotated with every oil change at 5k miles. 23k miles on the tires and they are absolute junk. I've been buying truck tires for over 25 years and these were the worst purchase yet. Of course I started out with Falkens that they wound up buying back because only one of the 3 was actually round.

debated b/w these and the bfg ko2 .I went with BFG ALL-TERRAIN TA KO2 LT265/70R17 LRC RWL ALL TERRAIN from costco about $900 OTD installed after coupons. BGF solid reviews and do like the look of them and limited off road use.

(They were a great tire but wanted something different and if memory serves me correct the Toyos are quieter than the AT3W even when I first got them but hard to say…)

I like the look of the tire (Not to aggressive but not too simple either…) and I really liked the weight. Published weight on the tire is 47lbs and I put one on my scale and it was 46.7lbs

I’ll update here as I put more miles on them. Love the look with my lift!!
Do you have any more thoughts now that you've had them a couple months?

I'm on 265 SL Wildpeak and am contemplating upsizing to 285s. I'd love to stick with the Falken's again as my current set has exceeded all my expectations, however the heavy weights has me second guessing myself. I'm looking to keep unsprung weight as light as possible.

Seems like the AT3s are among the lightest of the bunch, and perform well all around on and offroad. I do a lot of offroading around Colorado and Utah and am starting to get more into rock crawling so I'd probably be looking at 285 C load.

The vain part of me is also hesitant because the sidewall design is a huge step down from the Wildpeaks in terms of aggressiveness and I sure do love me some meaty sidewall....

I install a set of TOYO OC AT3's on my 2020 TRD ORP with RRW wheels that are 1" wider than factory wheels, ordered wheels with zero offset. I really like these tires, handle great and not noisy at all. Look great and so far do great in the rain. The biggest surprise was no difference at all in fuel mileage compared to stock Dubmflop Tires, I actually think I picked up one whole mpg. I get a consistent 20/22 mpg on the highway burning 87 octane ethanol free gas. NO BS !!!

Love them. Have mine on 285/70/17 SL. Able to handle trails with ease.

Haven’t done much Offroad. Busy with other things... Where I have had it off road it has done well in mud and mild rocky trails. Still pretty quiet on road and they drive smooth. Hasn’t affected mileage as much as I though they would considering the difference in general power and acceleration and the need to downshift faster. Interstate trip had me at 18.5 mpg with avg speed of between 65 and 70. If I went with C or E load, I don’t think I would care for the lack of power due to the extra weight. I don’t really need the heavier loads with what I do and where I live.

I was also concerned with the lack of sidewall lugs going from my Wildpeaks. But I think the lift along with the larger size has mad it work. But I believe Wildpeaks in 285 would look really good… Just so heavy…

Replaced my KO2s with Toyos in 285. No regrets.

Did you go with C load?
I’m between these, and KO2 in C load.

I have experience driving with both on 5th gen 4Runners (family members). I'd go with the Toyo A/T3 without reservation. Toyo is just a better made tire.
