My qualm with the Hankook is that it just doesn't seem aggressive enough for my liking and appears like it may have a pretty weak side wall. I actually think their tires in a lot of other segments are pretty good buys though (I had them on an Infiniti G37 way back plus put them on my Golf R when I was getting ready to trade it in ~6 months), so would love to see them do something a bit more aggressive down the road at some point.

Just to chime in; DT does include lifetime balance and rotation also. If one is not near you though, agree that is not a good option unfortunately.

The RG is a very different tire than the AT3 and they have generally not been considered great for snow. I actually did run the Exo on my 2012 JK and it was BOMBER in snow but is really too heavy a tire I'd say to make sense on a 4Runner unfortunately. I really wish Nitto had a 3 peak snow flake tire that didn't weigh a TON on the market in the US...

For reference: I typically get around 19 mpg on my ~60 mile daily work round trip (mixed city and highway). While I do not have a SPL meter, anecdotally both my wife and I thought highway noise was lower with the ATIIIs. This was after removing the foam sound insulation and carpet padding from the rear storage area - creating more space underneath our storage/rear leveling system.

On road performance was top notch. Good road feel, zero wandering. The balance was also spot on (and the installers did not mention any issues in getting the tires balanced).

Off road is where the tires really stood out from the ATIIs. In more than one situation in which we previously pulled the lever into 4WD HI, we kept the truck in 2WD. Driving the North Fork of the Swan River outside of Breckenridge created the most challenge. However, in conditions we experienced in the past, this time around we got much further into the drive with just the rear wheels pushing us along than we ever got with the ATIIs. Once the front wheels were engaged, we had zero problems going up extremely steep, rocky, and muddy terrain that the ATIIs always had issues biting into. Unfortunately, we had to bail when we got to the gnarliest section...which might be a good thing: we both thought that a stock rig might be able to make it up the rest of the trail, but a slightly lifted rig would have a much easier time. (any recommendations on a 2"-2.5" lift that doesn't kill on road performance??).

Ultimately, we are pretty stoked by the off road performance of the ATIIIs. The tires are so far a perfect match for our driving requirements, and I look forward to taking them out in the mountains this winter.

We stayed with 265s. With that said and after running around on the trails, I should have gone with 285s and done a little modification. The added height (and visual appeal) would be nice.

I had to buy early because one of my KO2s had a nail in the sidewall that couldn't be repaired. I left the nail in there until it came out on the highway and I had to change the tire. I did get the Hankooks. Dynapro AT2 RF11's. 20/32 tread depth. 285/70R17 at $187 a piece. So far so good, very quiet and smooth on the road. E-Load so I think the sidewall will be plenty tough. I don't think the tread depth will be any less grippy than the KO2s just looking at it. A YouTube review from Australia found these new RF11's to be more grippy than the old ones. I will find out.

KO2s lasted me 39,500 miles but were very poor riding at the very end.

Subscribed. These AT SL are extremely light weight. Their site shows stock size at 39 lb but the white lettering in same size is few pounds more which I find strange. I don't off road, but would like to have AT look without adding more wheel weight.

Anyone able to use the ATIIIs in the snow yet and can provide more review there?

I'm wanting to throw a set of 285/70/17's on my TRD rims, but Toyos chart lists 7.5 at the bottom of the "Approved Tire Width Range". I believe the TRD rims are only 7" wide. Anyone have thoughts there? Is that more of a warranty issue, or does it present legit safety issues?

I just got a chance to use them in my truck this past week in the North East.

Needless to say super impressed. I had 285 KO2s that were balance issue and terrible water traction. I sold them off the truck with about 15k on them and grabbed the AT3 in 285 SL rating.

They literally balanced with almost no weight, super smooth on highway, got some pick up back from un-sprung weight and OH YES AWESOME in the snow.

Best bang for the buck and an awesome tire ALL around, def prob going to be a go too when they wear out!

Have had 285/70s on since they first came out. First winter with them and super impressive. Good buy. Been through some good snow already in wNY.

BF Goodrich KO2 'C' load:
45.2 lb/tire; 15/32" tread depth; 50k warranty

Toyo Open Country A/T III 'E' load:
48 lb/tire; 16.3/32" tread depth; 50k warranty

Toyo is $6 more per tire, but they have a trial period of 500 miles or 45 days. Might have to give them a shot first.

Anyone running the stock size A/T III in E load?
