I installed mine last week. The console is VERY easy to disassemble, you basically just pull it off. It's by no means something to worry about.
The wire taps they give you with the USB kit are a terrible solution and I'd suggest finding something better for that portion. I'd check out a T tap 2 pin 2 way.
Also it sits relatively high up so I haven't found a great ram mount setup just yet that doesn't block a large portion of view out of the front wind shield. I'm waiting on some nuts/washers/etc to drill a hole in the side for a phone mount similar to the real cheap basic threaded ball mount that people have installed

Oh yeah one more thing about my setup - I can mount the phone perfectly fine and out of the way while driving, but I'm in phoenix and it would block an AC vent which is a no go. I'll probably mount a radio up top and then my phone on the side through the ICS cut out.

I really love my ICS dash platform. Really helped to clean up wiring clutter and secure all of the electronics. Here are some early photos with my own USB outlet solution. I've added in my iPhone and handheld GPS since then but will have to take some new photos

ICS Fabrication Dash Mount Review
Love it!
More amazed at the quality of ICS Fab’s version of the Ram mounts and Arms ....pure quality stuff. Plastic works but Billet aluminum and Carbon Fibre are a nice touch and bombproof.
I couldn’t find any info for the phone mount but was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and function.
I’ve ordered some 90°USB to 90° iphone and 90° mini usb cables for my GPS to even further tidy it all up.

Oddly enough the 90° GPS cable showed up today. I’d flip the USB charger over but it’s the perfect length as it is. No need for zip ties and it’ll work with the full range if you swing the GPS out to a different angle.

Is anyone aware of a similar mount for a 4th gen 4Runner? If so, could you provide an url link for it?

Bumping this up.
How high is the mount shelf above the high portion of the clock shelf? I'm trying to find out exactly how high something like a radio will end up sitting in the middle of the dash, and how much windshield it's going to block.

It sits pretty high especially when you add on a RAM mount. On the shortest ram mount, my gopro hero (the small square one) comes like 1/2" away from touching the rear view mirror. That's why I was saying earlier in this thread that people mounting like tablets up there are blocking a gigantic amount of their view.
The rail sits basically parallel to the rear view mirror so there aren't really any angles playing tricks. If mounted stuff looks close to the rear view mirror it's because it is. I'm tall also, trust me you aren't looking over anything when it's nearly touching the mirror.

I just went out and measured it.
From the very top of the dash arch it sits 1/2" up. Basically the tallest part on the actual dash.
From the bottom of the clock area to the top of the ICS mount is about 2 1/4".
From the top of the ICS to the bottom of the mirror is 6 1/4.
With a RAM ball mount attached to their shorted two socket mount, adding on a ball go pro mount is 2" from the mirror, with a go pro actually mounted it touches the mirror.
I'm not sure where my gopro is right now but I took a pic to give you an idea. I angle the gopro all the way forwards when I use it and it completely clears the hood scope in video. Note the ruler is touching both the mount and the mirror. The mount is located in a center slot on the rail.

If you were to buy something like the midway gmrs or the kenwood TM-D710GA then it would fit pretty well and not take up a lot of visible room, the ram mount's are mostly to blame for visibility issues. Honestly I'd still recommend buying the ICS or Rago dash mount, it's handy.

Thanks so much for the pictures and the measurements. That’s exactly what I needed.
I am putting an iPad in, but that’s going in a floor-mounted ram mount and not on that thing.
The radio is my biggest concern. I was looking at a Midland MXT400. It’ll be a chunk up there, but just based on what I’m kind of seeing, it doesn’t look it it’ll be too bad. If there were another reasonable way to mount it, I would. But I have the center console vault, so that’s out. I thought about the glove box, but then I can’t see the frequency or hear the output when it’s in there and shut. This looks like the best solution.

I ended up drilling a couple holes on the side for the phone mount. Doesn’t interfere with anything and can easily reach the phone.

I know someone with the mxt400 up there and it works well. I'll probably end up with the kenwood once I work out an antenna mount

Yep exactly what I did as well, works great. Almost required for me to not block the ac vent here in the summer. What's funny is when I had my phone in front of the heater, it would set off over heating alerts

That's a link to another post with a pic of my setup. That thread has more info also on installation. A lot more pics of different set ups. Noticed a couple with the pads mounted up there. My setup may not work for you because it does block a bit of the view. I'm 6' and it doesn't bother me as explained later in that thread.
