Adding interior lights and switching options

So the interior lighting on my 5th gen is starting to bug me a little and it looks like I'm going to have some time on my hands.
...so, I'd like to add a couple LED strips or tastefully done pod style lights strategically placed in the interior for added light.

Ideally I'd like to use the factory switch to turn on all existing interior lights as well as the 2 I'll be adding,,, but I'm not good with electrical.
Now if someone has done this before, I'm capable of copying them, but I haven't found that thread, if it exists.
Any thoughts?

Why not just replace bulbs with LED offerings?

That doesn't address the switching issue.
Wouldn't you like to be able to turn on all your interior lights at once with one switch? On my GM vehicles, the interior light/dimmer switch also turns on all the interior lights,,,, convenient.
I'm not sure that's possible on the 4runner , so option #2 is to add an independent switch to turn everything on.
