AMP Research Power Step

Has anyone done a custom install on this automatic deploying step for the 5th Gen runner?

that looks pretty sweet. Doesn't the newer Navigators have that? Probably might put a cramp in your offroad abilities though

A. It doesn't look like it's available for the 4 runner.
B. It's almost 1200 bucks!
C. Most members here won't look good in a skirt and heels.

I asked the local 4 wheel parts store if it could be nodded to fit and they said probably not. Mounting points vary too much from vehicle to vehicle. Asked if I could check out the Tacoma power steps to see how much work to mod. Said I have to buy it first then could return it nicely packed but lose 10 percent. Asked a Amp Research rep if they had plans to release a4runner power step and he said probably not. Not enough demand. Won't someone with lots of $$$$ give it a try?

2012 Limiteds and SR5s have that option. Dealer told me it doesn't fit on the Trail. Was talking to a new car sales guy so I'm not sure if he really knows. I'll ask the parts department but I'm afraid they will say it fits. $1200 aftermarket? Must be $2500 from the Toyota parts dept.

Parts dept said no guarantees it will fit a Trail. Almost certain it can be modded but that's at my own risk. Also, the parts are not sold as a kit so each individual part has to be selected. Price for the motor and running board alone is over $2000. This does not include the linkages, mounting hardware, wiring hardware or switches. Special order item so must pay up front and absolutely no returns. Sounds like a bad deal all around. Anyway, I'm interested but also agree that the powersteps are "girlie" on a man's truck (but less girlie than running boards). At least they are hidden and I only lose my manhood when they are down. I bet people will hate but they are also jealous at the same time cause it does look cool, makes it so easy to climb in and girls are really impressed. I'm confused! Have you ever seen a hottie in a tight skirt climb in a lifted truck? Now that's cool!

I would:

1. Wait for AMP to make them (They wil)

2. Not put them on a trail..... defeats the purpose of raise rockers if you ask me.

Mostly agree. I think I will wait. Wife will be pissed if I spend $$$ and fail. Also agree that it defeats the purpose of the high rockers but in all of my wheeling, have never come close to banging the rockers. Love my baby too much to go crazy on the trails. I think that is the problem with my runner, it's too nice! Been 2 years and I still baby her and it doesn't seem like it'll stop any time soon.

Coming to market in 2 weeks

I just spoke with the owner Joe at AMP Research. He says he has the new gen 5 Toyota 4Runner Power Step coming out in 2 weeks. Mid June. They were in coating ready for assembly. 4Wheel parts dot com!

Amp Running Boards Toyota
My 2013 Trail was used by AMP for the test bed on what will soon be the next addition to their automatic step line. They look very cool and make entry so much easier. With no disrepect intended for those who got the auto Toyota steps for their rig, I think we're talking apples and oranges.

The AMP step come down well below and also out away from the side. I'll measure the exact distance later, but on stock 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers (which seem to sit a little higher than the OEM tires) the step is only about 8 inches off the ground. Roughly halfway of the distance as built to get in.

In addition because the the step comes out away from the vehicle nicely, it makes the perfect platform to stand on while get thing on or off the top. Like surfboads, kayak, extra carrier, etc. Moreover going from the step up to sitting down is a very natural and easy movement. Especially for those of us who've had knee injuries.....

The step they used in the same one that was originally designed for the Tundra, and it fits perfectly into the side when up. In fact since it meets the Trail cladding on the wheels, the overall look is very much like it's part of the original design.

I can't tell you what a difference it makes to have these, especially for those of us with challenges getting in like the kids, your short or even pregnant wife, grandma, etc. The ease of entry becomes is a piece of cake, and might well deal the deal maker for the Mrs. agreeing to a lift....LOL Then when they're up they look very custom.

I'll get some pictures and post them up later or tomorrow.

Pix please. So the platform is no longer like the Tacoma version where the cross-section is oval (rounded edges) but is now like the other applications where it is triangular and less bulky?

I contacted AMP late last year but they said to check back. So I have been contemplating installing the Tacomas on my Trail as the instructions make it seem it would fit. The frame rails look almost identical, Tacoma version mounts to the frame rails instead of the underside of the body like the Tundra (good thing), and Oakley had put a set (platform like the one on the Tacoma) for the Toyota Dream Build.

I guess it won't have take the risk anymore...looking forward to getting some.

18 Offroad Premium

has anyone tried to install the amp power step on the OFF Road model? the local 4wheelparts shop said they can't install them on the offload because of the KDSS suspension. I really like the look of the amp power step and just need to find ones that are compatible with the offload premium and someone to install. thanks for the help in advance
