Coolant flush/replacement cost?

Got a price from my dealer for $194 to have the coolant changed. Is that the going rate? Seems a bit high to me.

I'm at 102k miles on my 13, Toyota says 10 years/100k for coolant intervals. I dont see mileage effecting coolant much, so not sure if I should even bother till the 10 year mark. I drive mostly highway, btw, and miles rack up fast.

I cannot comment on 4Runner as mine is only a year old
BUT my 2FJ’s got coolant changed at 50000 miles along with transmission, transfer case and both differential’s
CHEAP insurance according to many

DIY

It’s just a drain and fill, if they tell you they use a machine for the service run.

Did mine myself a while ago, the Toyota coolant is $15 at Walmart. Get 2 gallons and you will some left over and wonder what to do with it. Do it yourself and use the money savings for a family trip or event.

I drained the radiator and block to change coolant at 100,000 miles. It was an easy job if you've done it before. Don't overtighten the brass fittings in the block. Look for a how to video on YouTube if you haven't done it before. The manual recommends changing the coolant every 50,000 miles thereafter.

Yeah, this is definitely something I would normally DIY, and have done on other vehicles.

I was only looking to have the dealer do it because A)it was going in anyway for a recall, and B) I wanted it to show up on the service history.

Primary for service history. It seems like anyone buying a used Toyota 4x4 goes gaga for service records.

I've done the past two oil changes myself, and my carfax report is showing "2 overdue services".

I HAVE been updating everything on the Toyota Owner's site though.

The Toyota owners site is not very good. I kept it updated for the first 3 years, then gave up when it did not always show later. I do keep a journal and receipts on my diy service.

Good price at Walmart but it offers no store pick up for me. Over $50 just to ship 3 gallons. Got my 3 gallons from BAM Wholesale at $14 per gallon and shipping was also $12 with discount code for 3 gallons with 2 bottles of Toyota brake fluid that I also needed.

We all have at some point or another lol.

As everyone else has said, this is really a DIY job. Just be sure to burp the radiator when you do, that way any air trapped inside the cooling passages is vented and replaced with coolant. There's plenty of Youtube videos of how to do this, but it's an important step many people forget to do whenever they replace their coolant. If you don't and you're lucky, you could just have low coolant; on the bad end, you could run hot/overheat.
