Cons of 255/75 Tire ?

Looking for those with long term experience (6mts+, not just the honeymoon phase) of a 255/75 on stock 5th gen no lift. On road use, not offload. Yes the visual look gets you 32 but at what cost. Ride quality, steering stability at highway speed, bump steer, drift, transmission hunting or feeling funky? Heavy truck on tall skinny tires sometimes feels like it might tip/roll easier? Just looking for what others have experienced. And whether they stuck out the 255s forever or went back to stock 265/70. Thanks

I'm running 255/75/17 Goodyear Duratrac's in an SL load rating on the wife's 5th gen Limited. Truck is mostly stock (cornfed 1" front spacer, 1.25" wheel spacers, on FJ Cruiser wheels), XREAS suspension, no extra weight. We've had the tires on for over a year now.

I had many of the same concerns, this is a P-rated sidewall (the only sidewall option in this tire size for Duratracs), and I was concerned they would feel squirmy with that much light duty sidewall. There have been no negative attributes to this tire for our on-road use, great traction in the winter, feel great on on/off ramps, and look great.

I’m not going to run spacers, so I’m losing .5 width on each side / total of 1” less width running track. Spacers negate that by helping you gain track width back but have their own risks I don’t want to run into.

Running the Duratracs as well. A bit of noise (compared to a true highway tire). Other than that, no negatives.

A narrower surface on rock will give you less traction and you will not be able to air down as much.

I have always thought this was interesting regarding tire width:

I ran these tires before I had the wheel spacers as well, the tires didn't handle any differently, but it sure looks a lot better with the wheel spacers.

Thanks. Decided to stick with stock size and save $200 by not having to buy a 5th tire spare. Went with Bridgestone Revo 3's
