Anyone seen this yet? Procharger superchager

I do not think I have seen any info on this yet but not sure.

Toyota 4Runner (4.0L) | ProCharger

I would think this type supercharger would not be the best for a 4runner. It seems it would not help low end power, That type supercharger generally need a lot of rpm to make boost.

The other night when we bought our 2020, the manager said they will be getting a Magnuson edition that will add 100 HP to the 4Runner. $6000-7000 add on (one/dealer). Maybe this is what he was talking about.

Magnuson, not "MagnaFlow."

I had a procharger on a mustang and it made plenty of power down low. It’s not a big spool turbo it’s a super charger.

I'd get one to save the drivetrain down low.

Yes!

I’ve been looking into these for a while. For a long time they had nothing and then Magnuson super chargers appeared. That was really only the big power gains you could buy, working only around 5psi for an easy 80 to 120 go gain depending on the tuner and your wheels / lift. It was probably less but tuning technology has definitely advanced.

Then torque amp cane out, an electric super charger. It really looks like a turbo but since it’s run on a motor it’s classified as a supercharger. It runs on 48V and provides the same amount of boost and gains. This is about 2500$, but it was meant for smaller engines. So they figured out you could double the torque amps and begin selling packages. You could buy the kit and stack the turbos for about 5000$, and for a 7-10 psi boost. Not bad.

Then the ProCharger company had come out with there version. Before, a couple more versions and company’s began producing torque amps so you have a couple options. This ProCharger you shared with us is still very new to me. It seems like finally companies are investing in the potential of the 4runner but always be careful. I’ve looked over this website and the instructions and it seems pretty legit but I have no information on the product. Try looking into the other options as well. I know Magnuson is very official but torque amp seems reputable as well. Good luck!

I'm waiting on Garrett to come out with the E-Turbo aka Electric Turbo. They did say a import manufacturer will have their E-Turbo from the factory. Rumors has said the next gen Tundra will be twin turbo V6 hybrid hmmmm....

Garrett Motion takes turbochargers electric with E-Turbo

Garrett tech boss predicts big gains from electric boosting systems

I've been searching the internet trying to find someone who has the procharger. No luck. So, I ordered one today. Guess I'll find out

What year is your rig? Last time I spoke to Procharger they didn’t have a tune for 19/20.

Where did you order if from?

Magnuson used to make the TRD supercharger add on for the iforce V8's in the Tundra when they were available, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's still Magnuson.

This will be interesting. From what I understand Magnuson is a Positive Displacement supercharger (high steady boost at lower RPM's..) and this Procharger is Centrifugal (builds boost gradually and peaks out later in the revs). More options are better, so I'm excited either way. I've been looking at the Magnuson chargers for a while but have heard quite a few annoyances with it (leaks), whole point of wanting a 4runner is reliability, any mod can diminish factory built reliability, but if the mod was designed right, you can still have both.

Procharger has been around for quite a long time, and was the first centrifugal supercharger to come with an air to air intercooler. Lots of people have made really good power with them in other areas of the car hobby. That being said, centrifugal units tend to make less power than roots/TVS style units.

For a 4Runner application where we're trying to maximize long term reliability, staying naturally aspirated is of course the way to go, but if forced induction is on the table, there's a reason no OEMs equip their cars with centrifugal units over roots/TVS style units or turbos whether it's to make power (muscle/sports car scene) or efficiency (Ford Ecoboost line.) Roots/TVS superchargers and turbos are more reliable, make more power, and are overall better than centrifugal units. If it were me, I'd get the URD/Whipple kit. Whipple is top of the line when it comes to superchargers, they actually make a compressor that displaces as much air as the 1GR-FE.

All that being said, the 1GR-FE is an open deck motor, so it's not really the greatest host for boost anyway.

That's what he said. Genius manager I guess.
